So the wife and I got crazy today before cranking up the splitter...got the Husqvarna splitting axe out. Super fun on cracked up Red Maple ! Gave her a quick sharpening up for next time. My skills on both are a little rusty lol.
I grew up with a sledge and wedge in my hands..but I always wanted to have a good set of axes. This Husqvarna axe is great for what I'm doing.
Any suggestions on a good affordable felling axe ?

I would be a second on the recommendation for a council tools axe I have the single bit american felling axe from them. It holds an edge well and is a good chopper. I put a straight handle on it from house handle. I would like to put my hands on one of their velvicut axes. They're supposed to be on par quality with Gransfors Bruks only made in the U.S.A.

Fiskars X27 for general splitting is what i used to use until i went hydro. Still swing it on occasion. Problem free warranty replacement if you break it (ive broken two)

I have a council tools boys axe for limbing and sounding standing dead trees. It has a very nice temper line, holds an edge very well, and cuts hard and deep. I wouldn't hesitate to get one of their felling axes.

I picked mine up at smokey mountain knife works 3 years ago. I wanted to select a handle with good grain orientation.
