Not sure where this belongs but here goes…

I made this one years ago. Good idea but less than effective. Just a cheap ash shovel with holes made by a step bit attached to a piece of pipe to make a longer handle. F118 has a 24” deep firebox so the short handle can’t get all the way in. I did the same with an unaltered shovel for cleaning.

Upgraded today with a kitty litter scoop from Amazon. Just used some channel locks to squeeze the handle into the pipe. I’ve used the scoop with welding gloves for a week. This will make a nice upgrade to my stove tool kit.

Are you just collecting coals and moving them to the side with those tools?

Yes. I use the ash rake to push everything to the back half of the stove. Then sift the coals and dump them in the front half and shovel out the rest. F118 has a long, narrow firebox so side-to-side isn’t an option.

That is a great idea! My wheels are turning thinking of what I have here I could make one from. Worst case scenario is a trip to the hardware store.

Those are nice looking stoves. 8kW output. Does it take 24" splits?

Actually I just ordered a metal litter scoop from Walmart. It will be here tomorrow.

Yes, 24” max. I cut at 21” to fit the masonry heater on the main level.
