Couple years ago I was at a garage sale and picked up a Handi Rifle receiver, 45-70 Buffalo classic barrel, 7.62x39 barrel and a 22-250 barrel with a cheaper 3x9 scope in two hard cases. The receiver and barrel serial numbers were all of a set. I put Leupold 2X7 scopes on the 22-250 and 7.62x39. Have not shot the 22-250 but the 7.62x39 groups were only average with .308 bullet factory loads. I will have to slug the barrel to see if it may not be .311 as many 7.62x39 rifles are. Maybe accuracy will improve with larger bullets. The 45-70 barrel groups about 1.5 inches at 100yds with factory bullets. I have high hopes that that will improve with handloads. If the 7.62x39 barrel proves to be .311, I will buy dies for it and reload the larger dia. bullets in hopes of greater accuracy. If not, I might find another brand of cartridges that is better. I have already bought the gear for the 45-70. At any rate it is a fun set of barrels and interesting gun to shoot!
had a h&r handi in .22 hornet back in the 80's it was accurate and fun ,sometime in the late 90's i found a few boxes of brass i saved from it and instead of throwing it out bought a contender barrel in .22 hornet , the handi was 136.00 i bought it on a trip to maine ,my friend in fla. still has it ,i have the box and receipt.
.22 hornet would be a fun little rifle in any style gun. I wouldn't mind finding a barrel for the Handi Rifle but really would want a Browning Low Wall in that caliber.
I keep a .223 handi rifle with cheapo scope at the cabin for yard pest control. So far I have taken out 6 raccoons with it. Flattens them right out with any shot placement mid-body to head. I got if from my neighbor who used it for beaver control. It seems to be an accurate gun. I feel I could easily take deer with it loaded with tsx. I am mostly shooting up the Russian steel case solids that I got with the gun, but have shot the tsx as well out of it.
Picked up two Rossi "Handi-rifles" a couple years ago in .243. I have zero range time with either, but a friend of mine picked one up at the same time and loves it. (They were on sale, $120 ea.) One of mine will not break open after being shot- working on that one. The other is one fine. First deer rifle for my grand-nephew (he's 4 today), so I have time to fix stuff.
don't have a Handie rifle but hen I have a fair number of barrels that fit the TC Contender Frames long and short- same principal.
I have a pardner sb1 in .410 that I got for Christmas as a kid for my first gun. From what I understand any shotgun, .357, or .44 mag barrel will fit. I’d like to try one in .357 or .44.
