Could have burned this morning, but the wood stove is a resting spot for some items related to a kitchen renovation.

    Cool, damp, and raw.

They are so cheap to run. I use it quite a bit in the shoulder season.

No duct work in my house. Radiant floor heat. I wonder how big a pain it would be to install a unit.

Not in the NE but think we'll have a fire going before the day is out. Getting tired of the dampness.

No harm in fires any time of the year if it is cool enough to be uncomfortable. The only problem is sometimes getting a good draft started in the chimney. Light off a few newspapers and it should take care of it.

Had one a couple days ago with some small kindling type splits. Worked very nicely to get the chill and damp out w/o getting the house too warm.

Cooler in the house than outside, so I opened a few windows. If it doesn't warm up in here soon, the t-stat is getting an adjustment (did it yesterday....no guilt), and I'll shut the windows.

I confess to lighting up yesterday. Be dammed if I'll let my bride and daughters run around in hoodies in June! A nice pine fire with a couple random hardwood uglies had the house at 76 in the morning, perfect for the Girls to run around getting ready for the day comfortably. Was nice to chase the damp, too. We had guests for dinner also, and they (with their small children) were plenty comfortable.

I had thought we were done for the season, but we had two damp, cool evenings last week, and a fire was the perfect solution.

Well, it didn't, so I did.
I'm probably burning less than $.50/day in nat. gas for this, and not every day. Much less effort than firewood.:dex:
Starting to rethink my burning practices (that's actually just about constant and has been for a long time), to reduce my workload.
