Sorry stole the idea from another site, but I thought it would be interesting to post here. So, what say it... Any saws you regret buying?
I'll lead off to my own thread. 1st saw I purchesed. 50cc Poulan didn't make it to 2 year warrantee, spent more time in the shop then in my possession. Luckily got money back through warrantee 2nd saw I purchased. Stihl 391. Liked the saw, but thought it would work for One saw plan, way to big for limbing. In the mean time purchased some bigger and smaller saws so traded for a Stihl 260 and some cash, OK deal. I think I got the hang if it now, going to stick with looking for good used pro saws.
My 42cc Craftsman. It is temperamental as all get out to get and keep running, the chain brake selectively works, and the most annoying part is having to shut down and manually pull the bar out all the time to keep the chain tight since the "E-Z" tightener has never worked. I regret dropping the money on it, but in my defense it was my first saw and I didn't know any better.
I regret buying my 660 clone saw since the big end rod bearing an a crank bearing failed after 3 tanks of gas.
Worst saw of the modern era: Newer (2000 era) Homelite 42cc 18"...awful RuXing carb, Plastic Covers so thin, you can almost see them. Horribly weak antivibe springs- if saw bends any, the throttle cable pulls and you have a runaway.
MS 661! Won't start when the engine is at normal operating temperature. M-tronics on that saw, earlier production, are awful. Weeks at a time in the shop and only slightly better when it comes out, never 'right'.
I bought a Poulan 475 from a so called reputable person on ebay. The saw turned out to be a piece of crap. I had to tear it completely down and put new bearings, and seals which are not easy to find. I paid good money for the saw to start with because it was suppose to be a good running saw when shipped to me. In the end I made the saw into a very good runner but not without a lot of work and parts. I still have the saw and it does perform well but I was pretty mad at the time.
The echo 590 I bought on fleabay with "a few parts missing" Along with a scored cylinder and piston. .. They didn't answer my request for a refund and ebay didn't back me up. I did get more money in parts than I paid
Nope, started out with a factory recon PM 605 & Homie XL 12 I think. Had them for years & they ran good. Bought an 064 used about 10 yrs ago & then started collecting Stihl pro saws. Worst one I had was an MS 290. Traded it for a mint 026 & never looked back. I'm on the seven or eight saw plan LOL. Carry 3 or 4 all the time just for fun.
McCullough 890 mainly because it’s a beast to start and I can’t find a tune it likes for the life of me. 890 and carpal tunnel surgery don’t mix either. Ran it only a few times.
I bought a small Husky (don't remember the model) to try out as a climbing saw. The dealer was quite the salesman and convinced me that it would easily match the Stihl 200T that I was using for a fraction of the price. I bought it. It was back to that dealer countless times because it wouldn't idle. Nothing more frustrating than being in a tree and having to start the saw for every cut you make. After a couple months of taking it back for adjustments he told me I must have run straight gas in it because there were a few scores on the cylinder wall. Now wait a minute. It never ran right from the day I brought it home and now you're telling me that it's my fault? I make 5 gal of mix at a time. There aren't any issues with any of my other (Stihl) saws. Why just this one? So they quit trying to fix it, wouldn't trade it for a new one and I was out $300. Never went back there and never bought another Husky.
I regret my very first new saw purchase. To get into wood burning I bought a brandy new Husqvarna 450. After my first wood haul (16 cord of apple) I quickly realized it was not the right saw for the job. Listed it on craigs and got a decent amount for it and moved on to an XP. It wasn't a horrible saw, just not a serious wood-gettin' mow-sheen.
