Well this will be my second trip up to the mountains to get Lodge pole to replace what I burned last year. One more trip and I will be done. Probably got close to 3/4 of a cord. It was a nice day up in the mountains, but I was pretty tired when I got home.
Nice load! Interesting cart. Terrain looks awful flat. Are the mountains far away or are we just looking the wrong direction?
4' logs or can I just not see the seams between lengths? Never have cut lodgepole. Would like to one day.
The Mountains are about 100 miles away. That shot was taken when I got home. High plains and grass lands. The cart is a wagon with no sides I took them off. I cannot drive on national forest land so I take my wagon in and haul out the logs and then load them up on the truck which parked on a dirt road.
Yep the logs are 4 ft. long so I can lift them into the back of my truck plus I can haul them out of the forest with my wagon.
It was definitely cooler about 68 degrees with a pretty good breeze which helps keep the bugs away. Thanks.
Figured as much on the cart/wagon. Excellent workaround! 100 miles is a ways but then if you live in the plains, a nice trip to the hill country would be a fun diversion!
Nice load, sir. No wonder you were tired, loading it on the wagon, pulling it out and then loading on your truck......good job. Wish the gov't made it easier to get to.
There is a lot of standing dead right next to the dirt roads but the National forest people will not let you cut those. I even went to their office and asked for special permission and I was told that rules are rules and no exceptions. A good wind will come along and blow them across the road or they will allow a fire to jump across the road. I am more than able and willing to cut them down but rules are rules.
Instead we have to pay them in the form of firewood permits. Go figure Huh. Rules are rules and I do play by them even though I may not like them.
