Good day to all you fine hoarders We find ourselves in need of a new splitter. We're not attempting to match some of the miles of stacks displayed on here, but we are trying to get ahead of ourselves by 3 years at least and need to increase our current output. Does anyone have any experience of these splitters? Petrol Engine Vertical 12T Log Splitter Various brands seem to be attached to this model, some of which I've included in the thread title! Any advise/experience or recommendations would be very gratefully received!!!!
On box is says 'travel time' and '29s.' If that means a cycle time of 29 seconds, it means forget it. Everything is sky high these days for a 'decent' splitter. The 25-ton Countyline one I have is now $1799. I am not aware of any 'decent' splitter (which I consider this one as the minimum in 'decency,' that you can get for less than, say, $1,200 and that's probably on sale. I do not see Tractor Supply discount their splitters much any more. Maybe $200 off. Where I live. Sad part is I paid $699 for it, on sale, (reg $899 at that time) and I think it was just five years ago. It depends on what you're splitting. If the budget is tight and you have easy splitting wood and no need to transport it, I'd consider an electric, they are far, far cheaper and should be more dependable versus one with a gasoline motor. EDIT: Oh, wait... you're in England. Not much help there.
I do not know anything about them but if you are not working with big wood are there any distributors of a kinetic splitter (Super split) in england they are much faster and may be cheaper
If that's really a 6.5 HP engine then they have really undersized the pump to have a 29 second cycle time! Even a mediocre hyd. splitter normally has a cycle time of half that. I'm with the majority here. I clicked on the link and saw a 29s cycle time. That is painfully slow and would frustrate me to the point of not using it. My 2 cents, keep looking!
29 second cycle time? That's painfully slow. I'd pass, probably an electric model available in England that would be faster.
Thank you so so much for all your helpful replies. If I understand the summary correctly, I need to look for a faster cycle time (?) a bigger pump (?) Which then brings me to a quandary..... I don't have a need for a £2500 splitter (nor can I afford it!) Perhaps a better way of asking the question would be: what's the best splitter I can get (UK) for sub £1k ??
Since most of us are in the US, that might be difficult to answer. Take-away from the post, get one with a fast cycle time.
Surely there must be some cross Atlantic brands??!! Or Chinesium ones that ship East & West??? Dunno, am I hoping for too much!!!!
If you have big box hardware stores you should be able to find something under the 2000 pound mark, but according to what I’ve read your inflation is worse than the US. Most mass produced splitters under $2k here are around 12 second cycle times I think. I’m not in the market so I don’t read the fine print. Get the fastest cycle time you can afford. As said previously, slow splitters are impossible/painful to get ahead with.
So is the splitter in question considered "affordable"? If so then like I said, do a very simple and cheap pump swap to make it much faster! Then the original pump could be sold to recoup some of the cost too...
