Adding High Temperature red grease to a gearbox motor! Amazing

The St Croix gearbox versa motor very similar to an auger motor but a more compact gearbox has always came from the factory with a high quality grease fitting. This used one I have hear was making quite a noise. Therefore I added the grease and it quieted right down! Amazing!

If bearings could smile, they are, ear to ear smiling cause that lack of noise equates to happy bearings!

Also the gears are “floating on air” too!
Well you know I really mean “Swimming in goo!” LOL

 

As long as the gearbox temps hold steady, it is a lot happier.

But there is such a thing as too much grease, especially the 1800rpm and 3600rpm shafts with small bearing cavitites. Too much grease too fast can rapidly fail a bearing.

Interesting post! I’ll have to check the gearbox on my GCI60 next deep clean. I don’t recall seeing a zerk on there; but I’ll look closer.
