Spied this recently cut sassafras roadkill on my way to and from a job last week. (Note to self bring 261 with you today) as i was back to the same job. Had time to stop and grab some on the way back. Primo for what it was. Nice straight grain and no ants or rot. IMG_4702.JPG Bucked the first log, rolled to finish the cut and my first snake of the season. Its not easy to hold a snake and take its pic! Not sure if i was the cause of its missing tail. Twenty minutes cut and load. I was a bit uneasy with heavy traffic even though i was far enough off the road. I have to go that way again later this week so may stop and get the rest. It smelled great! IMG_4704.JPG IMG_4703.JPG

That’s big for a Sassafras. Nice score!

The 16" bar on the 261 just made it through the biggest round. Perfect size IMO.

I've never cut a sassafras, does it have a rootbeerish smell?

That and Black Birch are my two favorite smelling woods.
Do you toss some of that in if you sell a cord?

I love the smell of sassy. Get strange looks from the family when I tell them to smell a branch.
I have a standing dead that I need a pro to fell. Too close to house and branches tangled with a cherry. Also have another that looks like it's on it's way out, but there are several woodpeckers making nests in it. I'll leave it there until I can't.

I got some sassafras in the fencerow I took out this year and love the aroma it gives off when cut! Can’t beat it:yes: I was watching for snakes all morning today thinking I would see one, but never did. Last year it seems I saw them every time I was splitting and stacking.

This will get CSS and mixed in with bundles....9-12 months from now. I hate using primo hardwoods in bundles as they get too heavy. Any gnarly ones go in "general mixed cordage"

You're a better man than me (in more ways than one probably:)), I would be nervous AF with two lane traffic with all the distracted drivers out there nowadays. Gravel roads are more my style..

Yup, Wilbur Cross in North Haven. Technically it changes at the Sikorsky bridge. Big sign there. I seldom make it that far South. Lots of wood to be had on 15.
