I'm curious what your impression was of the "new" DF from Okanagan. I've been burning Okie DF in my Wiseway gravity feed pellet stove for the last three years. The first two years I was suitably impressed and it didn't faze me that the pellets were as expensive as they were ($360/ton). For those of you not familiar with the Wiseway, it was designed in the Oregon and built around using the highest quality softwood pellets you can burn. The first year I used it I was in contact with the designer who felt the Okies would do the trick. They did and then some. I had clean, efficient burns where I usually had to dampen down the stove to keep the operating temperatures from running us out of the house This year, with the new company, not so impressed. Gigantic pellets in some bags that just served to gum up the works on a stove that really requires a clean, fast burn. Struggling to keep temperatures up to where I had been accustomed to them being in years past. Overall, really not pleased with $1500 worth of pellets ($375 x 4 ton). I'm curious if I'm alone in this experience of if other Okie users feel the same way.
I should add that I am a fanatic about keeping the stove clean. Nothing has changed from prior years of use. I guess I'll be seeking out a new source for high quality DF for the winter of '18/'19.
Okanagan filed bankruptcy two years ago(ish). American Bio bought the name and are sticking a different pellet in the bag now I believe. Used to be Bear Mountain pellets in those Okie bags.
FWIW, I believe that Northern Warmth Supreme fir is Bear Mountain.......Doug can correct me if I am wrong.....
You are not wrong LW.......Northern Warmth Supreme Douglas Fir and Minute Man Supreme Douglas Fir are both made by Bear Mtn....
Wonder which DF product is in those modern Okanagan DF bags (AM Bio era). Surely an insider here must know.
First, no need for an education on the history of Okanagan. I'm well versed on the both the old and the new. So no one has actually tried them?
I have a feeling I'll be looking for your pellets for next winter. I actually wanted to split my order with House of Warmth, two ton of Okie and two ton of yours. Initially, Brian said he was willing but by the time I was ready to buy he wasn't carrying Northern Warmth.
Hardly......just trying to help the OP out.....he seemed to like the old Bear Mountains......they are still available, but not as Okanagan........hows that a sales pitch?
Dougie with a sales pitch? Nah.......... Just sneakin in a plug. Never did get a straight answer to what they be putting in the Okie DF bags!! But it no sound like they be all that dandy!!
not at all......how is one supposed to tell the difference, on a post, between "kidding" and not? Passive aggressive much?
Why would you be "squakin"?...Nobody has a gun to your head to buy them....and I'm assuming the dealer(s) will have other brands at a cheaper price point for you to buy if you choose to do so.....these are an upper-end pellet, (very hot and little ash) that some feel are worth the price to them. Of all my brands of pellets we sell each year...These happen to be our best seller..whether some on this forum want to believe that or not...it's a fact...so somebody must like them....(not a sales pitch....well maybe just a little bit......but again, just stating facts to clarify for some, since we seem to have our fair share of non-believers on here)....
