Just an hour ago I received a call that brought me to my knees about a man I served with at two units for a total of 7 years. CWO2 David Hayes, USCG. He was either 46 to 48 years old, has two boys, "high school age" and a wife and had 25 years in the USCG. He just passed of a heart attack as I'm told. What makes this even more devastating is, He flew to his home state of Hawaii to be with his father who is undergoing triple bypass surgery after his heart attack! All this took place in the last two days. His family is out here in New Jersey and they just purchased a house three years ago for his retirement. If you are reading this, Please send a little thought to the big man please, This family is just crippled now. Thank you. Dave.
So very sorry to hear about this. It's never easy to lose a fellow soldier or friend. And with service, the line between friend and brother/sister becomes thin to non-existent. Sorry for his family's loss, yours as well. He's off to calmer waters.
I'm so sorry Dave! Prayers being sent! No good when you have kids still that young. RIP David Hayes - thank you for your service sir
That is not the kind of news any one wants to hear. Sorry for the lose of your friend. Hope you will be able to lend a hand on getting thru the red tape for his widow and kids.
Praying for his family Dave & for you also. After meeting you this past weekend & listening to you it was obvious the compassion & love you have for your fellow service people.
Oh Dave, what a tragedy. Goes to show that nobody knows when their number is up. I am sure that came to you as a huge kick in the pants. Prayers that he rest in peace, Prayers that his father recovers from his surgery. Prayers that his family will be able to carry on as he had intended. Dave, you must take care of yourself. Don't let your sorrow run you down.
So sorry to hear Dave, and on so many levels. I will send a prayer shortly for all involved, including you and your personal grief. We just got in the door, and have yet to unpack.
Well, I got my bolts in my head back in straight! This one hit home and I'm ok. I was wrong about his age, come to find out he was 43. I assumed he was older because of his rank when we served together. He looked a tad older also. Thank you all for the thoughts and prayers, many of us in the Coast Guard community were touching base and scrambling on what procedure was next and protocol to follow. As most of you know, most military folks don't go to the toilet without a plan... Anyway, His wife and boys are making arrangements, they have lots and lots of help so assistance is there! Nobody "ever" saw this one coming, but nobody usually ever does. For what it's worth prayers and thoughts are always welcome, the family is full of support from many and the Guard, "which is a huge help" right now. As many and some of you know, this is "life" and I've seen it on both sides more than I care to speak of! But we cannot run away or fear it, we have to deal with it when it comes. Look at your family, friends and cherish the time thats here, life is precious for all of us and every creature out there. "Thank you all" for being here... Dave
So sorry to hear of this loss, Dave. Prayers going out to him and his family and friends. Way too young, horrible circumstances but the Lord ultimately had plans for him.....
Dave I've always known you to be such an honorable and caring man. This sad event just proves even more how deeply you care for those you've served with in defense of our great nation. I'm so very proud to call you my friend. Thank you deeply for all you have done, and all you continue to do, take care of yourself in these times of great emotional grief to you personally.
