Nothing fancy, pryed up the hood with a pair of pliers and just enlarged the exhaust hole to about twice the size it was, then readjusted the hood. Hope this opens her up and runs a little better than it already does. We will see.
Sounds good!! Did you remove it from the saw and wash it out good (water and air)? Let me know if it opens your eyes I have been wanting to do mine.
What are you guys using for fuel in the 555 ? Just curious. I am on my third gallon of fuel in my 555. Getting a slight throttle hesitation at the start of the cut. Used the Husqvarna premixed fuel for the first gallon and the saw ran perfect with no hesitation. Been using 93 octane w/ Husqvarna 50/1 oil since then.
"Been using 93 octane w/ Husqvarna 50/1 oil since then" That is what I have been using. I have ran about 8 or 9 tanks through my saw so far, No problems yet.
Its not really a problem, just seems a little off when I first hit the throttle from idle...slight lag. Thanks for your reply.
No problem. "Used the Husqvarna premixed fuel for the first gallon" I asked my Husky dealer about this stuff when I bought the saw, just out of curiosity. He said he would not use it that he thought did not have enough mix in it, said he had went round and round with his Husky rep about it. Too expensive for me anyway, so who knows. Sure it is good stuff, just sayin. Tom
Your dealer is probably correct. When I was pouring the premix it looked pretty darn clear. I was thinking hmmm.. does this sh#$ have any oil in it. I just figured that Husqvarna extends the warranty to 4 years if you buy the premix fuel so it must be ok. Anyway no more of that for me either. Like you said way to much money. Let us know how you mod works out , I'm interested to hear Jim
I use 87 octane and Stihl HP Ultra (currently) or Castor 927 (because I love the smell) at a ratio of 36:1. Runs good. But I am only on my 2nd tank on the 555. But that's the same mix I use in all my OPE. (Blowers, trimmers, saws, etc).
As I understand it, it's not an issue in every saw but it's not exactly rare either. The good news is that it's curable.
Do you think this is something I should try ? Or should I just bring it in to my local dealer under warranty ?
Some folks run amsoil at 80:1 or 100:1 ..some here even use to run it at that level It could look clear but since it says 50:1 you have to wonder.
Clem, awhile back I stopped using Sabre Pro @ 80:1 . For most applications, Sabre at 80:1 works just fine. But there were a couple items that I witnessed that did not like The 80:1 mix. One was my harbor freight generator. I noticed it slowing down, sounded like it was heating up and loading down, so I killed it and added oil to the mix, it had run fine ever since. (It still runs good, but has stopped generating electric. ) The other incident was the 066 Mastermind posted that toasted the big end rod bearings. His photos, descriptions, and theories all align with the fact that 80:1 is just not enough oil to adequately lube a high-performance engine turning 10,000+ RPM under load. Even AMSOIL admits that 100:1 is lean and for commercial use 80:1 is better. Dig a little deeper and for "racing" or "modified" or "high-performance" engines that regularly exceed 10,000 rpm, Dominator at 50:1 is the official recommendation. I personally run the Dominator at 40:1, and am seeing great indicators. 50:1 with either Dominator or Sabre Pro would most likely be fine for unmodified equipment but I run one mix for everything and a little extra oil isn't hurting my other equipment (other than my modified saws that is) at all. Sabre Pro, even at 100:1 is a very distinct crystal blue. No mistaking it for unmixed fuel.
I saw the mastermind 066 thread on AS and I decided to never go less than 40:1 which I have always run except 2 gallons of 50:1 last year. Tried some 32:1 and am back with 40:1 as I saw no difference and to save a few pennies on oil.
Ahhhhhhh!! The Triple Nickel is my only "Stock" saw. No muff mod, no nothing... All this talk is gonna make me open it up. And I ain't gonna go small. Go big or go home.
