Didn't know whether to put this under hobbies, DIY or here so ...here goes! Every year I make a couple or three wood burners for wall tents for elk and deer hunters. Makes a few dollars and keeps me off the streets and (mostly) out of trouble. Since I love anything that has to do with wood heat and also love metal work as well as camping, this is satisfying on many levels. I usually make the stoves out of 20 or 30 gal. barrels or sometimes from scratch. They are not air tight but are quite tight for what they are. They hold fire well for their size and are just generally fun to look at. These smaller stoves go well in the smaller wall tents and the upright was requested by the owner of a very small tent. It brakes down to 3 pieces and the legs fold for easier packing. I have a lot of fun making them and they have quite a following around here. When the barrel burns out all the fixtures can be moved to a new one. metalcuttr 001.JPG 002.JPG 003.JPG 004.JPG IMG_1401 (600x800).jpg IMG_1402 (600x800).jpg IMG_1405 (800x600).jpg IMG_1406 (800x600).jpg

Eric VW thanks for the comment. I think rocket stoves are a cool concept and have made several small ones. I guess I would have to call them self drafting stoves or near rocket stoves because they are not insulated like a true rocket stove. The efficiency of the things is amazing. If I ever have my Log Lodge in Montana (dream on) it will have a mass heater in it as well as several more conventional stoves. Thank you I will check that out. metalcuttr

That's definitely one cool little stove! That will keep you warm in the tent and cook your meals as well.
