well in FHC style lets post pics of my 661 on the kitchen table Ordered a set of the wrap handle dawgs for my 661, and a wide side cover. I like the R dawgs for sure! Not sure on the wide side cover, yet? So I will leave it up to you guys, to vote. Wide cover with the R dawgs or Small side cover with the R dawgs. 1st pic, small cover, stock dawgs (NO) 2nd pic, small cover, with the R dawgs, 3rd pic, wide cover, with the R dawgs
The tall cover always looks better! Now you just need a wrap handle and then you'll be a real logger!
yeah, seems like to fit in round here I would need a wrap? I like them & all but I dont fell, only buck with my saws. I got such a good deal on this non R saw, I couldn't say no I like the tall cover also!!
I find both somewhat lacking. The small is too short but goes with the lines of the saw. The wide looks like you stuck a box on the side. It would probably look better with the wrap. But them dogs are nice!
I got the wrap for the dogs and the cover ........... I aint no logger, but the wrap does come in handy once in a while, especially on a windy day when felling, and also when limbing. After its on the ground, some of the angles of the big branches that point down, and branches on the other side of the trunk (I usually work up one side, but cut both sides as I go up) are awkward, but the wrap does help. Here is my 066 right next to my new & muffler modded 661r ............. the 661r doesn't look as good anymore as it did this day. I have to say it one more time ................ my 661 is better with .404
It is purely a choice of aesthetics on that saw. The large cover is only to protect the operators hands when using a 3/4 wrap handle.
I was hoping someone would post this ..................... I put the big cover on my 044 and didn't like it when noodling, I also didn't like that big old rubber bumper sticking way way down, it caused the 044 to sit sideways. I was ready to go back to the small cover ................ Here goes ................ time to get my fire suite on ................ I know I will be catching some static from someone, but I have to say it. I cut that black rubber bumper right off at its tail, even with the bottom of the cover. That little mutha-scratcher was the whole problem. No more clogging noodles, and no more sideways stance !
I like the small covers with the big rubber deflector. It keeps more chips down and away from you if you have the clutch cover up making the bottom of a humboldt. The big covers clog quicker and if you're doing a lot of noodling washers only as a clutch cover works pretty good.
Next time I an doing lots of noodling, I will take off my high heels and skirt and give the no cover with large fender washers a try !
thanks for all the replies guys! Aesthetically, I myself like the way the saw looks, without a wrap handle, and with the wide cover. Functionally, I like the wide cover & longer flap (when bucking) as it seems to keep the chip flow, down and away from me vs's with the small cover & shorter flap. I have a 441, and have both with the wide cover and small cover, for it. I know the wide was made to protect your hand, when using the wrap handle, but I like the wide cover and longer flap, for a more concentrated chip flow, away from me. Noddling, I have clogged even the small covers, last time I took my 441 with the wide cover noddling I sprayed the inside of the cover with a good coating of WD40, that seemed to help with noddles from clogging up in there. I guess, next time I go out, I will have to bring my high heels and mini skirt with Thanks!
The whole thread is preference. I prefer my saws ported, clean, and to look good while being used but not abused. Is any of that neccessary? No! Looks do matter to me and thats a preference. If u want a small cover? Put it on? Large cover? Put it on.
About 73% of the poll says the wide cover, dawgs, and wrap. Wonder how many absolutely dont need it but thinks it looks better? If u do go to sell that saw it will become apparent if people like a r kit or not and how your saw looks will determine the selling price if its clean and looks good or dirty? Which do u think will sell first?
