I know this has been done before many other places on the interwebs ...but seems like fun. What 5 guns would you pick if you could only pick 5? Mine are: 12 gauge pump shotgun. The firearm multi-tool. .22 rifle for small game and practice. 30ish caliber bolt gun for long range work and/or what the 12G or .22 can't handle. Carry sized 9mm pistol. EDC. Duty sized 9mm pistol. For those times when 7 rounds may not be enough. Pretty practical. Pretty cheap. Kinda boring. Just like me.... Off to find a 30 caliber bolt gun...
I like your list lukem for me I might change your 2nd 9mm to either 357 k frame 8 inch barrel or a 44 mag rifle.. because of where I live I like short range 200 yards bullets with knock down ability. for coy dogs and such.. big ones 22 is too small 30-06 rounds go too far..
These threads are always fun. For my personal use , I would choose 1. 12 gauge shotgun, specifically my Remington 11-87. 2. .22 rifle-in my case either my Ruger 77/22 or my Broaning A-bolt. 3. A cross over rifle, for varmints and deer-I'll choose my Browning A-bolt .243. 4. A heavier rifle for deer and larger game-for me, my Browning A-bolt .30-06. 5. An all purpose handgun-probably a .357 magnum with a 4" barrel. Don't have one of those, my S&W 686 6 inch barrel will have to suffice. Of course that doesn't allow for a 20 gauge small game shotgun, a .22 handgun, a muzzleloader, a..... I'm glad I don't have to have only 5.
After swearing I'd never own an ar for 10 plus years, I'll say that it's number 1 on my list. 1. Ar 2. 308 bolt 3. Glock 19 4. 22lr bolt 5. 12ga 870 Now if we are talking zombies and such, my list may change.
My thinking is simple. I have 2 - 9mm carry pistols and I like the 12 ga. for anything in and around the house. Glock 26 and/or a S&W M&P 9mm in the waistband and a rem 870 at the house. The feeling of being in the wrong place at the wrong time is nixed.
1: 12 GA 870 pump, because there isn't much that it can't do and they're reliable. 2: .22 rifle, probably a Marlin 39a. It's not the best at anything, but I think it's the Honda Accord of the .22 rifle world. 3: AR15, I feel it's everyone's civic duty to own one even if I rarely shoot mine. And it could be used to hunt anything in my state in a pinch. 4: .38 Special revolver, probably a S&W j-frame for concealed carry. 5: .45 ACP, obviously a 1911 because this is 'Merica dangit! And they're purdy and fun to shoot!
I tried to talk myself into an AR...but couldn't. I've shot them before and they are fun...but I don't think it would get much use. I guess I'd rather drop a G (gun and ammo) on something that I'd shoot more. Plus...they are evil and stuff...
I had the same debate in my head and put off buying one for several years. But with the wrong composition in Congress and the White House someday they could be banned, so I figured now was as good a time as ever to pick one up. It did hurt my wallet even though I picked up a cheaper one because I have just about as much in mags and ammo as I do the gun. But it's nice knowing that its in the safe. Like I said, I don't shoot mine much, but I see it more as a type of insurance policy anyway.
Close in small stuff .22 air rifle more range .22rf your choice of platform 12 ga pump larger game out to about 150 yards 223 or 3030 ( cheap and plentiful ammo) your choice of platform 200-600yards 308/3006 ( same note on ammo) take anything in the common game group stateside- your choice of platform pistol 45 acp Got a couple of wheel guns not my favorite. I use my hand cannons hunting ( all bolt action) more than anything else now days which range from .22rf to 35 cal.
I agree. I always encourage people to buy one because once they start the ban nonsense you have an extra person thinking the ban is nonsense, it becomes more personal to more people.
12 gauge-Rem 870 .22-Ruger 10-22 .300 Win Mag .45 acp mid sized edc SKS Now I need to go buy 5 guns cuz I don't own a single one of these. I have either given my guns to the kids or sold them when I quit being a hunting maniac. I am down to my old Marlin .22. Kinda got the bug last year when I went out with my buddies and borrowed a gun for a couple days on a bird hunt. Might even try for a deer license. See if the boys will let me use one of my guns.
Only if there is a "Grandfather" clause. Several of my guns had to move out of state when NJ enacted a ban. No AR's- "AM"s without evil features have taken their place. Harder to find stripped lowers because they are a cheap way of owning prior to a "Grandfather" ban. I doubt there will be any bans , who knows anymore. On the five guns, in a family of shooters I try to focus on common caliber ammo more that weapons. Here's my current likes. 12 gauge- Rem 870 .22 cal- ruger American bolt action 30-06- win. model 70 .223/5.56- "AM" semi 9mm- sig p226
