I have a Rancher 450. I just bought a new bar and chain for it...or at least I thought I did. It looks like the chain and bar are for a 450. I notice how much deeper the teeth are as compared to the original Rancher chain. The 450 chain is also much more aggressive, which i really like. The question is, is it possible to convert the Rancher to accept this chain? Thanks in advance.
I thought 455 and 460 were the new saws called Rancher. Sounds like you have .325 and bought 3/8. Get the #s off your bar and post them. And you can change .325 to 3/8...new sprocket, bar and chain. But a 450 will pull better with .325.
Yes the 450 rancher runs .325 nk (narrow kerf) or picco as its sometimes called and will be .050. It will pull better with that set up and a 20". If you go to a smaller bar, say 16" you can run the 3/8 pitch, in a .050 or .058 that doesn't really matter. The sproket will have to be changed for the 3/8 though.
Here is the old bar. It through two chains very badly (I'm pretty careful with chain tension) so I thought I would try a new bar.
That appears to be a .325nk bar. And your old bar a Farm tough labeled .325 standard. Got any pics of your chain?
So would a sprocket change like Sconnie Burner said let me us the new chain/bar...and would it be expensive or a pain in the rear-end to change it out?
That's catching me as well. And I didn't think there was a chisel nk chain. Sprockets should be the same. Was the chain box unopened when you got it?
Nope sealed tight Husky chain. What caught my attention is when I rotated the chain on the new bar after I installed it. It was fine when there was a ton of slack, but when I tightened it up like normal it didn't feel good at all. I reinstalled it several times with the same result, that's when I noticed the new chain links were deeper.
Vanguard #72 3/8" chain. It won't fit the motor sprocket or the bar sprocket. That's why it's jumping the sprockets. Don't know about your saw, but changing sprockets is a 5 minute job on most saws. Your drive sprocket might be due for replacement anyhow. Post a picture of it so the boys can check it out.
As OldJack said that's a 3/8 chain. It won't work on your setup. Somehow it found its way into the wrong box.
