Life has been hindering my hunting time, my everything time for that matter.

On top of that the deer I was hunting on my property; an 11 pointer, was killed on a neighboring property on the second day of muzzleloader season. So I thought my chance for a nice buck was done.

Well the other day I was invited to hunt a very large managed property. The owner rabbit hunts my property after deer season.

I got dropped off on an old logging road overlooking a valley with a secondary draw feeding up a mountain. I was going to be there till picked up.

I saw nothing till noon. Then I heard what sounded like deer scuffling over a small ridge to my right. Then nothing for 5-10 mins. and then I saw a number of deer running around below me near the valley floor. It was a doe, fawn, and very nice buck. But they were 200 yards away through the woods. I was thinking that this won't work out. However the buck kept pushing the doe around in circles and trying to drive the fawn away and the doe filtered up the hill in front of me and then eventually cut across me into the secondary draw at 80 yards and the buck followed her on a string and when he presented the best shot I though I was going to get I took it. My .25 06 planted him as it has a tendency to do.

Dang man!! What state are you in VA?? I don't remember. That's a deer that looks like it belongs in Illinois or Iowa!! Looks even bigger with you in pic Which usually not the case.

I haven't done anything this year. Leaving my farm now. Many of the weekends I had to hunt were rained out and others I was busy.

    Congrats

Wow! That thing is really something! Excellent job making the shot! I'm sure you could hear your heartbeat on that one. Looks like quite a nice rifle there also.

Holy crap Batman, thats a brute. Sounds like 2nd wave of rut kicking in. I think that deer makes B&C without issue. The main beams and G2’s have great length, mass looks good. Be sure and update once he’s scored. Congrats!

Bought that rifle when I was 19. Ruger M77 with the tang safety. Number of years back I had it re-barreled with a stainless Shillen barrel. Shoots .4's with my hand loads. 100 gr. prohunter @ 3230 from the muzzle.

The place is big, it has been managed for 30+ years between 2 owners, the deer I shot was 8-10 on the hit list. $350 fine for shooting the wrong buck, and you are mounting it.

And you have to come back and shoot does. I will be there on Thursday. Number 1 on the list will probably stroll by and I won't be able to shoot.

If that's the case I will mount him pay the $350 and shoot does next year!!! I don't kill a decent deer but once every 6 years or so now anyway! Haha

If I had more time to hunt I know I would, we have had some nice ones the last few years around my place.

I know you are saying that tongue in check, but you wouldn't get invited back. I have some stories about that.

Just don't get me wrong, the owner is one of the most generous and giving individuals I have ever met. He loves to share his special place with others; he has disabled hunters a few times a year, but he takes it seriously too and if you screw up and shoot a scrub; or in one case two, you might not get a phone call ever again.

Mine is olive oil, fresh rosemary, crushed garlic, pepper to taste in a ziplock bag for the day in fridge. Use the bag to kneed everything into the meat. Salt just before you put on the grill. Then 1 cup of sour creme, horseradish to taste and 2-3 tablespoons of Worcestershire sauce on the side.
