Bought a nice lightly used first generation (early 1980's) 024 last month. $100 and great condition IMO. 165lbs compression. Had my friend go over it and he put on a new carb boot. He had just redid his 024.
It starts, idles, oils fine. Restarts hot no problem. Cuts good. Heres the problem. Partway through a tank of gas it will suddenly fizzle and stall when im cutting as though its out of gas. Couple times this has happened since he worked on it. I figured it needs a some gas through it to get all the kinks out. He thinks it may be impulse line. Thoughts opinions FHC? He wants my saw as its German made and his isnt. Im temtped to trade for his. IMG_3758.JPG

If you open the gas tank and run it again, does it do the same thing

Fuel line cracked inside the tank? Fuel level gets below the crack and starts running out of fuel?

Pretty sure they were all German made back then. Your tank vent or a fuel filter might be bad or the screen inside the carburetor may have picked up some debris when he changed the filter. You can also try running it without the air filter, as that’s where the choke is and sometimes the spring was weak and they would suck the choke shut

He is ordering impulse line and fuel lines OEM, but that makes sense.

That fuel line may not be available anymore. It was made for a smaller hole going into the tank. What guys have been doing for quite a few years is using one I believe from an 026 and drilling out the hole a little bit larger than the existing one so it fits

I drive by that house all the time and nicknamed it the "266" house. The address isnt 266 but it would be an amazing coincidence if it was.

I probably have the service manual for that saw if it turns out you need it.
