My wife told me that when she saw the wood pile, she said “Holy Wood!” I must admit when people comment on the wood I do feel good about it. I usually run about 1 year or so ahead on wood, but I’ve been hustling with getting more wood and use a bit less with the newer pellet stove. Due to this, I now am roughly 3 yrs ahead. Never thought I’d get there but it’s happened.

It’s funny how we hoarders are wired. We can be years ahead, have a mountain of wood split, stacked, and ready to go yet it never dawns on us that we can take a break. It always takes a “normal” person to point out the scope of our hard-earned collection. And even so, the moment another opportunity presents itself we're back at it again!

If you never stop hoarding you don't have to worry about getting in a bind. Makes the work much more enjoyable. Nice wood stacks!

    Hoarding :woodsign: ?
    Who's hoarding!
We're preparing for the eventualities that we will all be too OLD to cut our own wood someday.:faint:

Just give your niece a look and say:

Does a squirrel only gather one nut?
Does the blind hog ever turn a blind eye to the acorn once found?
Do those dammed quilters ever stop buying fabric?

DO YOU SEE A PATTERN HERE??!

And, (You'll like this one) Does a woodtick ever worry about it's waistline?
Or, does the wise dog bury but one bone?

Lastly, someone said "Give me firewood or give me death!" (Ok, that one might be going too far!)

My favorite? That's a nice pile of wood! Can I have some?
    Bests,
    Buzz

Ya'll are welcome to add to my list of replies - I've run out momentarily.

Southeastern, CT you say. I'll put the computer to work on determining the location-based on the sun angle at that time of day. :rofl: :D:p

That is always nice when people comment about our wood hoards! Congratulations to you for getting on the 3 year plan. May it serve you well.

Actually I used to get all sorts of comments on our wood stacks but over the past several years I've taken to stacking most of the wood way in back so about the only folks who see our wood stacks are the great fellows who come to our GTG. Actually, they too have stacked some of the wood and truth be known, they also have cut most of what we have left now and split it too. That has been a great help especially while I've been laid up.

Good points Buzz Benton and I do like the way you converted the horse stalls. Now you don't even have to clean them like you used to have to!

How true, I just went grabbed a truckload of wood today again. A mix of oak, red maple, and black birch. Lady I know had several trees taken down in backyard. It’s about 120 ft walk from the wood to the truck ( no way to bring truck in back), so I’m pretty beat right now. Some poison ivy there as well so I scrubbed up really good when I got home. Nice Steve. I know how much you love birch. Have you ever tried a hand truck? I did once and worked pretty good for trucking sections to the PU.

You definitely earned your keep today between the long walks back and forth and the poison ivy! Nice load of mixed wood too. I was lucky enough this afternoon to come across some beech, red oak and silver maple, but all of it was very close to the road. I still got a funny look from my boss today when I showed up for work covered in wood chips, pouring sweat and smelling like 2 stroke. :loco:

That’s a great point- I’m glad you mentioned it. The ground here was pretty littered with brush so I’m not sure it would work here but good thought either way.
