I have that exact same wood, I believe it's Atlantic White Cedar. I have a bunch that I split up small for kindling, it burns really nice.
I'm going with white oak, bark looks like it, and you said it had a sweet smell to it.
Was it heavy? We took down some poplar trees recently and couldn't help notice how wet and heavy they were.
