Yep... very correct... it took almost 9 months to clean mine up after finding out that I was denied credit... and I’ve always had good credit. Went onto the credit bureaus website and that’s when I found out someone bought into a Verizon cell phone. Went default on it... I was left to clean up that crap.... :headbang::headbang::headbang:

Husband's and my credit at all three credit agencies has been frozen since the Equifax breach. Only once was it an inconvenience, when I needed to open an additional bank account, and had to unfreeze temporarily. The only other issue is I can't open any new store credit cards, which I don't want anyway. Cashiers always push the cards, so it makes a perfect excuse. The peace of mind from having frozen credit has been fabulous. Our credit scores have actually gone up, because no credit inquiries I guess.

I just saw an alert that echo's your instinct above. There are FTC and CNBC links article below.

PSA - FTC warns against choosing Equifax $125 cash settlement option, wants us to choose credit monitoring

Things to improve credit score "old/seasoned accounts" leave open make payments weather in full or payments on time. credit limits NEVER run cards more than 2/3 of the total limit( takes score down just like making a late payment) Anytime you make a major purchase ie car, house score will drop but after payments start score creeps up.

Absolutely. The biggest one is really the length of history that you've had an account. Don't close a long standing account. Renegotiate if it's a credit card.

I've had my identity stolen 3 times. Even with that, with smart usage, patience, and research, you can fix your credit.

victims are not even going to get the $125. Equifax does not have enough money to cover it.

Dealers hate that, they get a kickback on the loan but usally after 4 payments , 817 is a awesome score should get top tier rates!!

WWW applied for a loan, I went to unfreeze our accounts for credit check, 3 of the 5 of the freezes I did are not frozen. Interesting, maybe they only last 12 months, or they did not infact actually take effect since the websites were so busy, or?

I applied for the free credit monitoring and never got it. I guess the big dogs can get away with anything.
