    Good point:salute:
I will leave some rounds up to 8-10" if it was standing dead and/or already dry.

I do the same as brenndatomu and buZZsaw BRAD .

I'll save stuff for the camp fires though.

I save down to bout 3-4” depending on how full the truck is getting. I’d say I start splitting at 6-7” depending on how tired I’m getting and how hot it is outside.

    Sorry.
With the Doug Fir we get around here the limbs are more BTU dense than trunk. Most scrounges from the tree companies are just trunks as the limbs are all chipped. I like it when I can get limbs around 8" which I split. 6"ers I split about half of them. I'll save down to 4", any smaller and they are too much trouble to fool with. Those 6" left round coal up nice and last a long time with nice even heat, more like a hardwood than soft!

We mix it with splits, we mixed it with pallet boards last year and heated nearly all winter with that and shorties. The really small one are used when we first start up a fire. Take some up to my mom's, for kindling.

I use it all I stop at about 2" for fire wood. as for splitting if it will fit thru thre 10" furnace door it doesn't get split.

At 2 inches it is made into mulch. Use a lot of that stuff.
