Saw mechanics and gurus, I have a question

So I bought this Husqvarna 268 on an online auction. When I picked it up (bought sight unseen) and pulled the start cord, it feels like someone straight gassed it. I haven't torn it down to see exactly what is the problem yet, but maybe tomorrow (pics to follow)

The questions I have is I was under the impression that I could use a 372 top end on the saw (which I have here), but talking to a friend, he said that it wasn't compatible. It would have to be a top end for a 268 or a 272. Can you guys verify that? Thanks in advance...

Yes, 268 or 272 would work. Not 372.
