I have a lot of these growing on the perimeter of my property. I keep finding more small ones the more I look for them. Is this Hickory? I used to think they were white oak until the leaves sprouted.

    It’s not hickory.
    First glance seems like hackberry.

Does the fruit get any bigger as summer goes on? Looks a bit like butternut, aka white walnut. We had a three stemmed butternut at my old place, before burning for heat - got a lot of pit fuel out of that one!

I would say it looks like black cherry.

So far, Hackberry seems like the closest. Butternut leaves and Hickory leaves are opposite one another so I think that rules them out.
