I’m so glad I didn’t clean the woodboiler a few weeks ago when it was in the 80’s. It’s been in the upper 40’s to low 50’s and wet since Saturday night and not much is changing tomorrow. House was down to 64 and it’s damp so you guessed it, the wood boiler has been fired up again. I’m sure we could tough it out but why be comfortable all winter only to suffer now?
For sure when we are heating with wood, it just does not make sense to be uncomfortable from cold or damp or both.
I put the foam plug in the basement stove to stop the chimney smells but didn’t do the upstairs stove yet. Luckily, my procrastination paid off. It’s going to be in the low 40s tonight.
My boiler's still cooking along too. Haven't had much warm at all. Don't trust the weather yet. Better than being cold.
Burning some pine. Very likely tomorrow as well. I had let the "day tank" wood shed by the door run empty because I move it off into the woods out of the way in the Summer but earlier today I filled it back up with pine. I usually put off inspecting the chimney until September. There shouldn't be anything wrong or even need cleaning , certainly nothing that would take all Summer to address nor do I wish to be up on a hot roof anyway. Plus an inspection prior to use is a safe practice so I may as well be cleaning (if required) at the same time.
You Southerners.. I just shut windows.. 40 cold chunky rain.. Might light stove in morning.. 4am if we get 1 to 4 inches of snow predicted. House still 67 .. Now if FHC was here.. I'd lite stove and crack window
May 13th picture not taken but could have been because ash burning in the insert cat in a fire induced coma. Didn't get out of the forties all day
I lit the England 28-3500 last Thursday evening. It is still burning this morning from last nights fill but am plaining on letting it go out today. Forcasting a day of 65F here today and getting to 80 they say by Sunday. Crazy weather staying about 35F below normal for this time of year and then jumping to 20F plus in a couple days. Yesterdays high was 44F with a wind chill around 38F. Al
Reminds me of my late cat "Donny" who would lay directly on the hardwood floor in front of the fire and twist into these pretzel like shapes JoeinO I think he liked the heat more than i did! One of his nicknames was "pretzel puss"
Got a chuckle out of Donny and pretzel puss for names buZZsaw. Never been a huge cat fan but this little dude has kinda won me over, we inherited him. Yep that's right a rescue cat from a hurricane in FL. We promised a friend we'd look after him.
This is my cat Lucky, we recused him fron under a burning bush after a Friday/Saturday snow storm. He wanted nothing to do with the cat lover Kare and came to me for some odd reason. For some odd reason he likes to lay streached out on me and the recliner chair arm. Al
Believe it or not JoeinO , Donny was named after Donald Trump, but this was in the year 2000. He was, what we thought a stray, let him in one day, he takes one lap around the family room, jumps on the couch and goes to sleep. I then say "who do you think you are, Donald Trump, you own the place?" The name stuck...well at least "Donny". Being as friendly and laid back we think he wandered to us from another house through the woods. He would disappear for several days and then come back like nothing happened. We'd be worried sick. Indoor/outdoor cat that would scratch unrelentlessly at the door to go out.
