hi all, I’m thinking about getting one of these. Can someone who has one please explain the automatic damper?
I’m concerned about how safe that is.
I’m other words, if I left the stove burning while I’m at work, could it run away on me and over fire?
    Thanks

there is a bimetal tab on the back of the stove that lets air into the secondary air.
its only about a 1x1 opening.
not much air to let the stove "run away".
    everything else is manual...
unless you have an unusual amount of draft, i dont see you having a run away fire.

Many many people leave totally manual stoves run while they are gone...it's just a matter of learning to run the stove and how it reacts in your install...so with a bimetallic spring control, the AS should be even better left unsupervised...

^^^ Yep, what these guys said. ^^^

My totally manual stove doesn't cause me a moment of worry when I leave it (or when I sleep), because I know how my installation behaves.

Thanks for elaborating on that for me. I’m okay with leaving my manual stove cause I know how she behaves. The idea of a stove changing how much air it’s taking on its own scared me.

Is the automatic damper a new option on the AS? First I've heard of it.on one.

Not a new option. These aren’t the primary air supply being auto-dampened, it is fine tuning to ensure complete combustion.

Some straight noncat stoves use a similar auto damper for secondary air too.
