Getting ready to go on a trip (7 hrs 1 way) this weekend. Checking over the vehicle and a low tire. Had problems with rims leaking for years. Got new set of rims hoping to cure this 1 1/2 years ago. This is the first low tire since new rims, but just afraid they have oxidized, winteritized, shrunk, unseated, whatever these new fancy aluminum rims do. About 10 lbs a month has seeped out for 2 months now. Have any of you had this problem, how did you fix it? I HATE ALUMINUM RIMS! :headbang:

Started developing the same problem a few years ago on the original Jeep wheels after having new tires installed, and still dealing with it.
To be fair, the Jeep is an '03.
Keep thinking I should just put on steelies and some new tires, but I hate putting much money into this thing. If it's worth $2500-3000, I'd be surprised and the wife doesn't want to part with it.
These wheels have deteriorated to the point that every one loses air every few days. I just check and refill before I drive it.

I've had nothing but issues with aluminum rims. I gave one a dose of the Slime stuff and it worked. Had another one that the bead area just flew off. Though the tire blew out.

Had a problem with my original GM alloy rims on the 05 duramax. 2 years ago I took them to get powder coated.. Guy media blasted them, degassed them and then coated them with a 3m product. when they mounted my new tires, they used a bead sealer.. haven’t needed to add air since... the powder coating job was $100 per rim. The original clear coat on the alloy rims had started peeling off a short couple years after I bought the truck..

Yep. Same issue on 2 trucks of mine. I had the tires dismounted by a buddy and then I spent about 30 mins on each wheel scrubbing with wire brush and a light abrasive wheel to finish it off. Remounted tires with gob's of bead sealant and no more issues.

I've had to have corrosion on the bead on aluminum rims addressed as well. Steel, too. Have gotten by with just a generous coat of rim seal in the past.

    LOL at spellchecker.

    Yup
Wire brush on grinder around the bead area.
We use crisco or some cheap vegetable shortening on bead for sealant and makes it easier for mounting.
