I haven’t posted in a while since I haven’t had much Wood time. Not to mention saw time either, although I’ve been collecting lots of projects....... Anyhow we’ve got a strip of brush and trees down the side of the house which are mainly ash. Unfortunately I’d say 95% are EAB casualties so before they start falling on the house, driveway or powerline at the road I’ll take them down myself!
The plan is to put down the dead trees and brush grade the area and then re plant. Trees are already ordered and I just have to call to get a machine here. Did a little today, not much, but it felt good!!

Also part II of this project was to clear around my so called “pond” and backfill that as well. It’s mainly a mosquito pit that only holds about a 1/2” of sludge in the bottom. I’ve done most of the clearing around it earlier in the winter.
Here’s end of summer lots of willow and brush!! 2241AE59-F8C4-491B-81C4-888B237208DE.jpeg
Work in progress almost cleaned off the sides. 099D0DD6-FAB8-455A-95F3-A63145EA89EE.jpeg
Even did some climbing and bombed in the willows a little at a time. D3A35F2C-AAFB-4520-9E85-FB4547AD0B2D.png

It’s always nice to be outside and get some fresh air after winter has let go of its grip...

New job keeping you too busy for wood work, eh Joe? Looks like you got rid of the snow so things are looking up.

Yep feeling pretty good, just need to find time to run the saws!! Now that the snow is off it’s time for mud season!!! I’m hoping to get everything cut, cleared and chipped soon. Then hopefully things will be a bit dryer by then and I can get on it with a machine and push stuff around!! P.S. Scotty Overkill im about ready to tear into my 038 magnum project so there will be a muffler headed your way for some modifications soon!

My wife actually sent me a picture of the pond area today and asked when did I do all this?
    Before... from October
    D5F9DB6A-E5CF-4DD8-AE57-5EB9B715D35D.jpeg
    After.... today E9831C02-1885-4538-BC4E-D84C9B67D5FB.jpeg
You can kind of use the small crimson maple in the front of the pictures as a place mark in both pictures. If you look in the back around the three stem cherry there’s a few rounds of good wood otherwise it was mostly cottonwood saplings and willow!

Doesn’t really do it justice, but I dropped 7 trees in the main part of the spot I’m working. 9DE127BB-8ABD-4B00-B27B-8B609E92EA3C.jpeg 1B2DB14E-83B0-46AB-9318-C3F560E3E9F8.jpeg

Pretty sad the bark falling off and being covered in tunnels underneath. Good fire wood though. Next I’ve got to limb them where they lay then pull the logs with the tractor.

Does not look like those are too far gone so should make excellent firewood.

Part of the reason I wanted to take them now! Soon the rot would have started and made them worthless. They will last much longer CSS!! :dex::saw::axe::stacker:

Of course a little orchard revamp going too. Got some old gnarly not so healthy apples out back and I’ve been meaning to get some new growth to add. Hard to see in the picture, but we stuck in 4 McIntosh and 4 honey crisp after dinner tonight. Maybe tomorrow I’ll tear out the old and put them in the smoker wood stash! 6C52BD82-D815-4EB9-AF7D-260F772D69D8.jpeg 535CF008-841F-46A8-BC25-EB47E630A349.jpeg

    J. Dirt Will you be putting a fence around your new trees to keep the deer away? Just this morning I saw a deer eating the tips of branches on one of our apple trees. They love apple.

Well I was thinking that they may need something around them. Now that you’ve mentioned it I guess I better

Had a half hour this morning so I tossed the choker on one of the tractors and pulled a few of the logs. :tractor: EA166705-358E-4133-AE51-8EE82ED5352D.jpeg Check out the tunnels...:mad: DF7EA84F-96D0-4D4D-8904-780315BA4479.jpeg

The grass part that’s messed up is actually gravel driveway that the grass has grown in to. I will say though had to lengthen the choker to reach the logs so I didn’t back off the driveway cause it’s nothing but standing water!

A little more done tonight. Pulled the trees out from the main section. Taught my 4 year old how to steer the old tractor with the brakes when the front ends in the air. :picard: 77D7D15C-BEF1-46A8-9B0F-82912CD8E082.jpeg 5F6E096E-46F8-48F6-9036-A4A4FED68950.jpeg 3418433C-8641-400D-848E-3946095286C7.jpeg 145D07A2-E191-4784-A245-258A65CE4A11.jpeg
This little patch is next, but I’m going to wait until I get the chipper here first. 1058CFE8-D815-420A-AD1F-A95785A3807E.jpeg

Shortened up the log pile this morning. Got the trees down to 6-8’ lengths or so and got them up off the ground. 95745571-D0C6-4C32-89E9-68984B4B6E15.jpeg 14AFD17C-D4CB-401E-8C09-642383981EBC.jpeg
