You may have seen my prior lamb pictures from 4/8 in the Kubotas at work/play thread. Since it was a little off topic there, I thought I'd start a new thread to share my joy as the girls give birth this Spring. Here is today's new addition to the flock. A healthy robust ewe (girl) lamb with her mom. She had a twin brother but he was stillborn.
Now for a little update of the prior babies. Just after midnight last Sunday morning this beautiful ewe gave birth to happy, healthy, huge (1o.5# each) twin ewe lambs.
Two healthy 7.5# girls arrived safely today. Mom was very respectful and broke her water at about 5 pm when we were out feeding them afternoon meal. Deliveries went off without a hitch. We had mom and babies all tucked in for the night, the manger cleaned up and back in the house by 9 p.m. Couldn't ask for a better delivery. Two more pregnant ewes left to go.
mike bayerl , great looking herd man. Thanks for sharing! Just out of curiosity, how much does the mother weigh that delivered he twins at a whopping 10.5lbs each? HUGE!
The ewes are about 150#, but she is our smallest one so definitely less than that. Lambs are usually about the same size as human babies ~ 6-9#, so yes, these were whoppers. And they are growing ridiculously fast. 12 days old now and easily over 20#.
Forgot to post the newest set of twins, delivered on Weds afternoon. Finally got a boy (the black one) and a brown (girl). So far 6 girls and one boy. Only one more pregnant ewe left to deliver.
