It's been too wet to get in my honey hole but I got in with my 4 wheeler this evening and cut some red oak and hickory tops. I didnt get a lot done but I enjoyed cutting and my 026 was doing a great job. I dont use it much anymore but I like to run them all occasionally. I also took a ms180 I picked up a while back that was basically free and it does a nice job too, it's very strong for its size and weight. Nice to be in the woods and enjoy the mild weather.
I was out for a couple hours late this afternoon making firewood as well. It was nice to be out cutting without a ski cap and only wearing a sweat shirt, didnt like the mud though. COLD dry days are my favorite conditions. Sounds like you like to hoard chain saws too! LOL!!!
This is what I need to be doing just taking little bites as opportunity permits. We burn SO MUCH wood that I get feeling overwhelmed about getting it all done at times. You definitely have the right idea, slow & steady wins the race. I watched my father in law do it that way for most of his life. Don’t know why it’s so hard for me to catch on.
I spent an hour scouting, after work. Great weather and daylight was a little longer. Found a fallen cherry about 14” by fifty feet among different logging remnants. Also came across some rounds I cut last Fall and loaded them up as well as a 8 foot broken away part of a tree. Hauled them up to the splitter and called it a day.
I'd surely like to be out cutting but still way too much ice and snow here. Actually most of the snow is even turning into ice as you can walk on top but things are very, very slippery. Had to spread salt just to get to the barns else I'd had to wear ice skates, and I can not ice skate at all. Never could handle those things.
Same here. We had lots of snow, a 2 day thaw, a quick freeze, and more snow. Net result is ice everywhere hidden by snow.
I had the day off yesterday and spent some time working on the splitter then clearing some trails/cutting. Was sure nice to have a warmer day and get outside for a few hours! Ruger slept good last night too.
We had a fairly mild winter but a lot of rain and then cold. The ground was frozen about 2 to 3 inches under so it was too sloppy to get around without rutting it up.
Just think about eating an elephant.. One bite at a time. I like to sit out in the garage and have a cigar and a couple beers after supper and after the little one is in the rack. If weather permits, this is also prime firewooding time - once the snow melts I'll spend an hour or so most evenings getting something done for the hoard while enjoying my evening stogie. For me, this works better than marathon sessions. At fifteen cord a year, it's the only way to fly imo. HAving recently switched to an indoor stove, my consumption has gone way down this year. If I keep up the old pace, I should be well past the three year plan by winter!
Weather forecast this weekend is good, with a week of drying in the fields and woods I plan to cut lots of rounds and leave them lay to promote bark slough off.
