so....speaking of shelving....any ideas on cheap shelving???? shelves will be 36" deep and spaced 8"-12" apart.....need 40' worth and top shelf will be at 8'.

best i can come up with is 2x4 uprights with 2x2 for shelf supports and 1/2 or 7/16 plywood for the shelves. that seems like the cheapest and will probably be less than $1000 but has the downside of not being adjustable or movable in future

Professional shelving is expensive. If you have a local store going out of business you might be able to pick up the fixtures for a deal. When toys r us when out of business last year you could buy all their shelving and displays. That would of been a good source or adjustable shelving. If something similar is closing you may be able to get them. But often if just a single location of a franchise closes they just send that type stuff back to the warehouse, unless they leave it in the local store for the property owner to have.

my munchkin. she came to the shop to "help" which really just amounted to her riding the hover board and building stuff from the wood scraps

The new place is looking great fordf150 !!

For shelves I think you have the most cost effective way figured out. You could do slats to hold up the shelves and not attach them so they could be moved up and down. Put s set on every 4” or so. Would cost a bit more but would give you flexibility later.

Kids are a great help for lifting our spirits but don’t get a lot of work done:). Usually worth it:)

Yeah DIY with wood...you could build them using french cleats to make them adjustable.

didnt get any good pictures of the latest work but i did a temporary install of the 40k furnace and started sanding the floor this weekend. floor didnt go nearly as well as i had hoped so yet another delay in my move in date but the furnace was a success.

my tiny 40k btu furnace kept the place 65* with the bathroom exhaust fan on, 20" box fan in one window blowing air out and a second window open as a fresh air intake all while it was in the low 30's during the day and dropping to mid to high 20's in the late afternoon/evening. we actually almost shut the furnace off during the day but opening the garage door for a few minutes to carry stuff in and out cooled it off enough that we could just leave the furnace run.

floor is so not worth this much effort. my time table for moving in just got pushed back by another month because of this brilliant idea to refinish the floor. weekend before last was 20 hrs of sanding which resulted in half the floor being done with the 20grit. This weekend was another 19 hours of sanding that didnt go very well......sander i rented decided to take a crap and overheat every 15 minutes requiring a 15-30 minute cool down. Trying to locate 2 sanders for the coming weekend so we can double team it but as of right now sunbelt is trying to blame me for the sander not working so that rules out renting a sander from them next weekend......they blame running it on an extension cord even though the first weekend it worked perfect on the same setup and it was the control panel that got hot and had a burnt smell to it.

I think it may be time for a new phone...these pics are terrible and i even remembered to wipe off the cam with a rag before taking these.

to far along to quit now and even if i knew before hand how much work it would take I would still be doing it....just would have started sooner and allotted more time for the sanding, I had wild idea of 2 loooong days and i could do it......reality is that we are 4 days in and at best only 50% done

Floor is all sanded no thanks to Sunbelt rentals. rented their sander and it worked ok the first weekend. second weekend it decided to start overheating and shutting off. 15 minutes of use made for 15-30 minutes of cool down time. returned it and told them the problem. they claimed they fixed it but also blamed me for the issue.....saying since i was using a 25' extension cord that that is the reason it was overheating even tho the same setup had worked fine the weekend prior. since they claimed they had it fixed i went ahead and rented it again this weekend......bet you'll never guess what happened. lol. same overheating problem, thankfully i also rented a sander from another source except that it was a different sander and took more expensive paper....$9 per sheet vs $2. we tag teamed it until the sunbelt sander was getting the metal handle so hot you couldnt touch it. broke down and tore it apart, repair the wiring and continued on. Bet you can guess what they offered me for renting me a partially working machine 2 weekends in a row.

What did they offer you for fixing their machine and having it broke 2 weeks in a row? I bet nothing!
