Caught the neighbor out looking around in his woods so I went over to say Hello. He was looking for dead wood to burn. Even looking at cutting some witch hazel. This told me he was perhaps desperate. So, without saying anything I just came back and took the tractor in back. Loaded up a scoop full of wood to get him by for a few days; maybe a week. Sometimes you just have to help neighbors even if they don't ask.

I'm thinking about trying to find that guy we met a week ago. He had some surgery so ran short on this year's wood. He still had some but maybe we could help out a bit and even gain a new FHC member.

Nice, it is a good thing to be good to neighbors. So many people tend to stay to themselves, but when you reach out, as you did, you usually find that people are pleasantly surprised. Great way to make a new friend too.

Some years back A friend kept missing wood from his wood pile during a cold spell. One night saw a kid making off with a few sticks and followed him to his home a block away. Found out from a neighbor that they were kids and a single Mom dealing with some hard times. Ron had me help load up his truck with seasoned wood and we drove down the alley and pitched about 3/4 cord over the fence and under a backyard carport during the day when no one was home. I suspect they never knew who did it but it made Ron happy to see the chimney smoking, knowing the fire was keeping the family warm!

Now why was the chimeny smiokeing, didn't you give prpoperly seasoned wood to them?

All you have to do is go back the the thread about proper seasoned fire wood where many say there should be no smoke from properly seasoned wood.

Dennis having had the privilege of:handshake: and calling you a friend. I would expect nothing less. Good men are few and far between and I'm glad you had enough dry wood to assist!:tip:. Now teach him the 3 year plan;).

I have a retired neighbor who has a wood stove. Saw a pile of rounds in her yard. She splits by hand when she can. Ran over with the Forest King and split what I could. Much of it had turned pretty punky.

She send an email to my wife saying what a pleasant surprise it was to see that split.

Yes, we've talked about it in the PM. It has to do with climbing.

And what exactly are you trying to say here? Perhaps you don't realize that even with properly seasoned wood you can get smoke from a chimney.

Haven't yet had the privilege of meeting you in person, but if a man's deeds are what defines his character, you're a good man Mr. Savage.

-edit- even if you still insist on using a splitter the wrong way. Lol. :)
