I’m not one who claims to be an expert, but I’ve been running saws as a homeowner for over 40 years. I’ve had two kickbacks that nearly got me and it made a believer out of keeping a firm hold. Not criticism here but if you run a saw long enough it’s going to happen. Great start with some good looking wood. Hope you have as much fun as I’ve had over the years.

Looks like some beautiful hill country in the pictures behind you Mark. Be careful - Don’t get too addicted to working with chainsaws. Well, maybe a little addicted is ok. Or a lot addicted. Never mind.
    Safe cutting.

Welcome MarkG ! Starting off with a 362C is a great choice. That saw will make a lot of firewood for you. As others have said, take your time and use your PPE's. Take a break if you get tired, that's where most accidents happen. Eric VW has you off to a great start.

That is also the first thing that struck me when I saw the picture. No, you don't have to lock that elbow all the time but if you create the habit and then just one time have a kick back...

Thanks for putting up that pic Backwoods Savage
We’ll discuss the elbow position next time we go out to cut.
But still, for his first time ever running a saw, he did a great job.

When I tow our splitter out to MarkG ‘s house, he’ll be shown the proper way to split the pignut rounds we got into yesterday. They’re green and super heavy. I’m even going to prepare a properly cushioned milk crate for him:yes:
