Very disappointed today. Thought we had gotten ahold of a huge score in this big white oak but when we started cutting it up it was extremely doady and would have been way more work than it was worth to get the good stuff out of the middle. That’s my 3 year old daughter standing at the base where it blew over in a storm about 3 years ago.
I know the feeling. I had a big red oak blow down a year ago. 40-44” tree. I knew it was hollow but was sure there was going to be a lot of good wood in it. WRONG!! I got about a half of a face cord out of it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Donny Price Looks like you should be able to get some good limb wood from that tree with them being off the ground.
Tops were worse than the trunk. May have gotten half a face cord before it was just getting to bad to sell.
We've had white oaks being stressed by high gypsy moth populations for 4 or 5 years here. Year before last was particularly bad and a lot of the white oaks didn't make it. The tops on some of those dead trees were surprisingly soft and decayed. Sad to find as white oak is normally a fine firewood once you get it seasoned. I have a few to cut down yet.
