I've never been asked for a tip on the Pike but I'm not surprised at it either. I've also gone 78 or 80 to south on 81 and then cut back to avoid NJ/Baltimore/DC rush hour traffic
We stuck with the coast, and went down the Delmarva peninsula. Stopped overnight in Exmore Va.,and crossed the Chesapeake Bay bridge/tunnel in the morning. Rt13 is a bit more commercial, with cross roads, bit avoids all the traffic around Baltimore and D.C.
What a crock of "BULL$#!T!!! Maybe back in the 50's and 60's when they did everything but wipe your butt, "maybe"... Not know. I usually yell at the @$$ clowns because they spill gas all over the side of the car. I stand there and watch them fill.
Not in my eyes Paul, sorry to contradict you, the've beat the hell out of the side of the car with the nozzle, spilled gas everywhere, over filled when I asked for $20.00 and then they say, "Oh I forgot" I thought you said fill it... I've actually drove off owing a station $13.00 once because I argued with the manager after he overfilled me. I said "SUE ME" then I called the cops and explained what happened. Freak this state!!! Just look at my avatar, it says it all!
Let me say this for the record. New Jersey has some Beautiful places and is very historic. I grew up 500ft from the ocean, and swam nearly every day as a kid. What FVCKED this state up was/is politics!!! Hands down... Then you have places like Camden, Newark, Trenton, the Oranges and so on. I can "BASH" New Jersey all day because I can!!! Some say I'm just bitter, well hows this: I live on about 1/3 of an acre in a development. with a very modest home about 1750sqft. My taxes a year are nearly $5000.00 a year. Then I always seem to get some dip $#!T who say's; Oh but look what you get for your taxes! "WHAT THE HELL DO I GET"? Trash pick up, thats what!!! Not to mention I pay a sewer bill of about $500.00 a year and a water bill around $1000.00. Now add that up! Yeah, I frankly don't care "WHO" on here loves this state, I can tell you it has it's beautiful places but go back and look at the political status and who is currently in power, he has destroyed this state more than anyone and will keep doing so. We already had our "sanctuary state" status confirmed. I could go on but I won't, I think you all get the Idea...
1974 we Washed front and rear window and Checked the oil ,every time, We would clean your lights off if you asked, Or if we just thought they needed it , Check and fill your washer fluid If you asked , Check your tire pressure and Fill it If you asked , Actually would check any fluid you asked for .I didn't like checking Automatic trans fluid , there is the trust factor because you had to check it with the car in drive. And like I said we did get tips sometimes .
Pretty much the same thing up here...prices and policies. Every customer that pulled up for (25 cents a gallon mind you) gas would leave with a clean windshield, oil and tires checked. Some customers didn't want their oil/tires checked and that was OK since it was so damm cold during the winter months anyway! Windshield wipers and headlights available and replaced also. Closing those type of actually full service stations sure was a loss for many people. I figure that you and me are the sole reasons that the car manufacturers got to install (and charge for) those tire pressure lights on all vehicles now a days!
Spent the 1st 21 years of my life in Illinois. Next year and a half in Oklahoma.Moved to the Wisconsin in the end of 99. Got married had 2 kids on the 3rd dog. No offence never had any interest New jersey.Been to Harrisburg PA a few times. Moved my MIL there then we decided to have kids and we got to move her back. Sorry just rambling.
A little fuel for the fire, I try hard to not send money to places like NJ due to the political implications of the over populated places. I am a country boy to the core and have a strong mistrust of those who think they know how I should live. Rant over-----for now.
Well.. I finally got the replies from the esteemed member from nj, that I was hoping for. Except, I just wished he didn't beat around the bushes.
the east and west coast need to fall into the ocean,............that is all Yes I grew up on Long Island
According to History, the East Coast is pretty much done falling in, now it's just erosion. The last great east coast fall in was about 60 million years ago when there was active faults. The west coast on the other hand, It's just a matter of time! The only safe place for the west coast is upper mid Washington state. "So I'm told"...
I don't understand why these northern states (not meaning you guys on this forum specifically) continue to vote for increased government involvement in those states. It amazes me every time I hear about some of the laws, regulations, and taxes in these states that even though everyone complains, there's still overwhelming votes in favor of government that supports these policies. I just can't believe that the largest portion of the 13 colonies that fought for our independence from government are so increasingly dependant, willingly at that, on the local, state, and federal government to run their lives.
This is easy actually. Politicians say these magical words; "Free stuff, We'll protect you, This is better for you, Nobody will offend you, and life will be "MUCH better". But you must vote for me! Some people can't think for themselves and a lot of society are getting Lazy'r and want everything done for them. Proof? Hey refrigerator, turn on the oven and set it at 350º... Really??? you can't walk over and turn a frigg'n knob...
