Kevin in Ohio nice job on taking down that old Beech. The cabin rebuild was a great addition thanks for sharing.
I knew there had to be a story behind that. Awesome rebuild..There wasn't much left of the original to work with. Your father is the man!!!
Molly, nice post! Believe it or not I can actually add some experience here. When my nieces went to visit the Philippines they brought me back a 1/2lb bag of this cat poop coffee though not the same brand you posted here. We brewed a batch and the only way I can describe it is that it tasted like coffee that was slightly fermented. Perhaps you could get almost the same result by brewing some coffee and leaving a glass of black coffee on your counter for a about 5 days then drink it. Thats probably about it and we all came to the conclusion that it was nothing special or worth any extra coin. I also heard on the news a while back that there is some kind of Nicaraguan Parrot or bird pop coffee that is like $100 a pound, probably also a hipster gimmick.
Hey Kevin in Ohio I just noticed the many links you have in your profile thread of all your rebuild projects. Very well documented and excellent stuff there. It's a lot of stuff to explore for me right now, but I will be checking it out for sure!
Yeah, one could waste a LOT of time on it! LOL Here is a quick link to all the albums. Albums By kevininohio - ImageEvent Building, repairing and following through with ideas is my unwinding mode. Nice work Kevin. I've dropped a few hollow ones but that one would really be scary. I helped on one one time that was similar. We found (as expected) it to be hollow so put a rope up high in the tree and hooked it to a tractor. Down it came! That felt better than cutting it with chain saw but might not always work.
Nice picture of a civet in the wild but Kopi Luwak is harvested from civets kept in battery cages just like chickens are farmed for eggs. Battery Egg farmers could print up an equally impressive certificate claiming their chickens are well cared for by " standards".
Used Dad's 3 point splitter to work it up. I'm VERY spoiled with mine but didn't figure we had enough to make it worth while. I regret that decision. LOL We got a late start in the afternoon. Not very good quality and even worse that it's all curvy grain. they'll be a lot of "boiler chunks" here. Not a lot here but it'll provide some heat. We got the biggest stuff done today so just some smalls and the rest of the top pictured here to go.
Good job Kevin in Ohio on getting that bigun to the ground safely. Some folks might not have realized how dangerous a hollow tree can be. Now they know.
Apparently the Ohio giants have been falling here lately...here is a pic of a Gray Elm tree that was recently dropped in Holmes Co...it was deemed by ODNR to be the largest tree in Ohio back in 1987...but has since been dethroned by a tree in Hamilton Co. Between 6 and 8 feet in diameter depending on what direction it was measured from...and over 100' tall. The saw in the pic has 48" bar! Yeah they say "never mind the mule, just load the wagon" but I think the mule and the wagon are gonna need mindin on that one!
I do no believe I have ever dropped a tree with that much of it hollowed out in the center like that. Wow that was a scary one. Nice job.
