    Hello
Do you recall Tuners with dial string and receivers with Signal Strength and VU meters with a slender needle pointer?
How about shinny silver or gold color knob front?
    How often do you update?
What did you or do you have?
Do you have any fond memorys?
What feature(s) do you like the most???

My very first receiver was actually a Radio Shack TM-90 tuner and the SA 900 intergrated amplifier!!

I had these for a very long time then I got the Yamaha R9 Natural sound. Great sound with good bass but the days of Stereo Recievers soon came to an end!

Then Home Theater came along so we stayed with Yamah and got the RX-V663 a very popular unit with 7.2 channel surround sound and 2 additional front special effect speakers to make the actor or object emitting the sound coming from the part of the screen where they are located!!

Then the new standard emerged called Dolby Atmos or DTS-X for 3D sound and those additional channels are standardized to Height speakers!
Also WiFi and internet radio to hear radio stations around the world is definitely one of the best new features so we had to get the economical 9.2 channel Marantz SR6012 :) although 11.2 channel is the best but a lot more $$$

Pic 1 - Radio Shack Realistic SA 900 and TM 90
Pic 2 - Yamaha R-9 Natural sound receiver
Pic 3 - R9 recipt from Tweeter Etc!
    Pic 4 - Yamaha Home Theater RX-V663
Pic 5 - Our new 9.2 channel Marantz SR-6012 new standard in Home Theater with Atmos 3D sound using Height speakers!

I have about 6 component systems in my barn and house and speakers to boot. I now have a Bose Wave and doubt I will ever go back, maybe for a workshop or my garage though.

Got a buddy that got a McIntosh system years ago at a garage sale outside of Binghamton NY...I think that's where they started?...he gave $75 for a complete system and a few 'extras' plus a couple of milk crates of albums...He will never get rid of that system.

Yes, I am surprised, Audio has changed a lot over the years and yes you may have to be older to realize all the techinolical improvements but heck I really did think there were quite a few people that kept current with their TV and audio systems??? The advances in 3D sound are really quite amazing! I guess most people just don’t care? Am I wrong??

I don't I actually wish I owned a tube amp, 2 channel just like the ears given to me.
Surround is cool for movies but for musical bliss, I much prefer 2 channel.
Someday I'll get that Mcintosh tube amp I've been drooling over but always seem like something else needs done.
Shack I'm jealous of your buddy, man $75 what a deal of the century!

Oh, if you look on the web and craigslist you can get a lot of old technology audio for short money. I am so into new technology that would not cut the mustard for me!! The new 3D Surround and internet radio for clear crisp radio stations are an absolute must now!!!
I just wish the videos that I stream on you tube had some DTS-X or Dolby Atmos encoding, that would be pure heaven!!

I hear you! He does love it and really appreciates it, so it is loved and valued. Those kind of things never seem to happen to me. Had a buddy from here move to Atlanta in 1990, went to a garage sale, needed some bedroom furniture...He and his girl came across a complete set of master bedroom furniture in mission style...guy was asking $500 and took the $400 they offered...yup, it was Stickly, they had it appraised and it was valued at over 20 k back then...me, I got a real nice deal on a lantern last year for $3.

    Hello
Well I know wireless speakers is another new technology that I try to stay far away from! A nice 18 or 16 Guage wire can carry plenty of sound for 1/10 the cost of wireless speakers if not even less!! For my passive subwoofers in the workshop I twisted 2 pairs of 14 Guage together to make 11 Guage and I get plent of LFE With my Passive 12” subs and Polk 500 watt sub amp for a lot less than wireless! Granted it takes a lot of wiring and up front labor to get those wires in there but with some basic planning you can get a lot more Bang for your Buck!!!

Yea I understand, my music tastes don't really go there though. I don't care for compressed music, such as internet radio.
I don't stream much music really at all, mostly flac files is what I listen to.
More of a purist audiophile I guess is what I would be called.
Plus I record audio as a hobby and it's 2 channel so all that new tech wouldn't be utilized either.
Don2222 I know what you mean; the orange extension cord speaker cable :) fooled many in blind listening tests.

Guess I’m behind the times. This is one of my living room audio systems. Kick back with your favorite cold beverage on top of the same table that holds the radio, 8-track and LP player. Sounds great for being 40 years old.

I have a Sony surround system from the late 90s that I bought before the wife and kid came into play. It is still sitting in the boxes from when I moved this past summer.

I also have a couple Sonos wireless speakers that sound almost just as good as the Sony equipment and takes up 1/10 of the space. It’s not the same listening experience as dropping on a LP, but the convenience factor makes up for it.

Reminds me of my Realistic -TR-802
That was way before I got CD & DVD burners! :)
I did have a very nice Onkyo Dual Cassette Deck TA-RW11 in between that is still collecting dust!
    Great dubbing cassette deck!!

This one is a Magnavox. Got it from a neighbor a while back for free. I have a pile of LPs and a hundred or so 8-tracks, so I figured what the heck.

I don't have pics, and no where near the audiophile as most. My last answer will tell the answer.

    1. JVC - receiver (I don't recall the model numbers)
      1. Boston Acoustics A60s speakers
      2. JVC dual tape dec
      3. JVC record player
    2. Onkyo - receiver - current TX-DS484
      1. Bose Acoustimass 10 Series III home theater speaker system
    3. Alexa's - 5 throughout the house

I've had a pipe dream upgrading my receiver and building out my media/audio station again. I own a ton of records, and would love to get a quality turn table.

Looks great. Unfortunately right now my money is on hold from anything other than paying down my debt. The only thing I am attempting to do right now is build an emergency fund and setup sub accounts to save for our known expenses such as oil, car taxes and such. I'm hoping that within the next two years I'll actually be in a position to look at wants rather than needs.

In today’s money that was nearly a $2,000 purchase.

When they go up in smoke! :D Oh boy. this thread can get long winded for me... I've had about 9 amps/tuners over the years and my recent is Harmon kardon. My first was a Lafayette... o_O Yeah, find one of them today.
