sitting in a tree stand overlooking a recently harvested timber stand, I watched three juvenile bobcats hunting among the tree tops. I figure they were attempting to flush out whatever may be sheltered in them. My brother was in a stand a mile away and watched them too. They aren’t too common in Indiana, though there are many more than Natural Resources will predict. I think they are of the opinion that too many reported sightings are actually feral or domestic house cats. I was fascinated. Sure broke up the monotony that is stand hunting.
I have yet to see one in Wisconsin but have seen a few in the U.P. of Michigan. As I recall their feet seem huge but I think it is mostly hair. Would be very cool to see three at once!
We saw 2 bobcat in northern Maine a few years ago on a snowmobile trail. We stopped and watched them slowly walk out of site into the woods. Beautiful!. We also saw a Canadian linx in maine. wow! they are a big cat.
I've heard of rare bobcat sightings here in Southwestern NY, but haven't seen one personally. I did see a Fisher a few years ago. Had to do a Google search to figure out what it was.
We have bobcats here. They come very close to our house. A hunter shot one a few years ago. I have a picture of that. Only have seen one fisher cat. Don't like fishers a all. Also have coyotes ( they are big ones that the wardens say are mixed breed with wolves.) used to see pheasants, rabbits, and ducks. No more. Do still see Turkeys.
Cool little buggers to see. I just saw one on sunday. It was very small. Only the 4th one Ive seen in the wild.
Don't tell that to the previous dog, Bear, 110 pound golden, bobcat was 75 feet off back porch.. Bear was terrified.. I was trying to get a photo. Just a guess 40 to 50lbs about a third the size of big golden
I saw one several years ago, and I saw one that the local trapper caught at my brothers property. Not legal to keep in NY-I went up with him when he released it. Quite a fascinating animal.
The population of bobcats seems to be taking off quite well in Indiana. Several years ago I was sure I saw one while hunting and was told we don't have those around here. Now it seems most everyone is getting pictures of them on their trail cams all around central Indiana. I gotta get my cameras back out so I can try to catch one!
