I hunt in Pennsylvania, only about 12 miles from where I live in NY. There is a ban on bringing whole deer into NY from Pa. Due to CWD. It is legal to bring quartered deer into the state-just no head, backbone, and intestinal matter.

My plan is to skin, quarter, and bring the deer home. I'm fortunate that I hunt on my cousin's farm-plenty of place to hang a deer and do the work. I'll need a cooler to bring the deer quarters home. How big of a cooler should I be looking to buy to haul this home?

If it’s only 12 miles, I would just toss the quarters in garbage bags and throw them in the back of the truck. Save yourself $100...those big coolers are expensive.

If you looking for a cooler grad a marine cooler they are about the cheapest large cooler. Check Craigslist etc.

I'm in agreement with this. Cooler not needed for a 12 mile ride.

Well, you're right!! Hasn't thought about that, I could use a clean storage container, or the garbage bags. Thanks for saving me some $$$!!!

If I don't bring the entire deer home I just quarter them out and stick the meat in game bags then into a garbage bag for the ride home. Game bags are great for keeping flies and dirt off the meat.

Most if not all garbage bags are treated to prevent odors/bugs. I'd go with the cheap storage bins.

Garbage bags don't breathe. They'll hold heat and moisture in. But for such a short trip, it probably doesn't matter.
It takes me longer to get a boned-out deer to the truck than it'll take you to get home.
Pillow cases work as game bags.
