This is my 60+ year old black locust tree. It is bleeding sap....in many places on the tree. The bark is changing to the light color. Two of the major limbs are dead. But, they were also the ones that took the brunt of 2 major hail storms in the past 8 yrs. As much as I like to hoard fire wood, I do not want to see this on the pile. Thoughts/comments/suggestions
No suggestions, but hopefully the tree holds on long enough to avoid your stacks. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
It's been our experience that most of the time when the trees weep some sap that it will be okay. Just give it some more time and see what happens.
no locusts that I know of around here but, pine trees will weep sap from bugs ( you can usually find round holes ) or tree damage, some being just growing pains. It's not uncommon for them to weep sap around knots/decayed branches at the trunk.
I think it is a defense mechanism of the tree to flood the bore holes with pitch/sap (whichever the case) to push out an infestation.
