My work owns a lot of land/woods and held a sealed bid auction for 20 cords of wood already cut in 4-6 foot lengths and put into 4 different piles. I put in a bid for 3 piles and was the lucky bidder for one of them. Was advertised as 7cords but after careful calculations seems to be more like closer to 9. Pile is 98%oak red and white. Went out over the weekend to start cutting and loading for trip home . Will worry about splitting it this winter as I have to get it out of there by 12-1. My bid was 325$ I hate to be paying for wood but seemed to be a good deal.
I recently drove to Minnesota to purchase a Honda Passport scooter. Along the highway I saw hundreds of piles of wood stacked up in the 10 ft range. Is this just from the highway dept clearing the side of the road?
I guess I'm not sure. The stuff I got is from a oak savanna rebilataion project. That the university is working on. That's all I was told.
Work has been going on both in MN and WI where they have been clearing right of way for new high voltage lines. I have seen lots of wood piled up along 52 between Rochester and the Twin Cities. Wood piles have also been spotted north of La Crosse, WI where they have been doing the same thing.
