I made a new batch yesterday. 2 1/2 paper towel tubes worth.

Boy, I read that wrong at first.
I still don't know what a scented tart is though.

    Me: sasquatch poop!
    Wife: what?

But i take a pinch of chainsaw noodles and roll it into a ball between my palms. Place that into egg carton and pour a bit of beeswax over it. Just peel one section of carton off to start each fire. Smeels real nice and wife dont mind if a puff of that smoke comes into house before the draft gets going.

Ya, beeswax smoke smells awesome. I use beeswax to coat hot iron when forging.

    Dave, you made me laugh!
A wax tart is a small amount of wax that's scented and it's placed on a tart burner. The aroma fills the room. Tonight's scent was spiced pumpkin.

Someone made a burner specifically to burn tarts?
One of the wax candles I picked up at garage sale recently, had a scent.
Used it to make some firestarters.....or would they be fire-tarters?
    Whatever. They smell gooder.

Just started reading this thread. As a candlemaker at one time, those old candles would make wonderful new candles with a bit of melting and pouring into candle molds. There is nothing nicer than beeswax candles.

Just a word of caution. I hope everyone is melting their wax over boiling water and not a open flame or directly on the stove element.

We used shredded paper also. I just put some in the very small bags from Walmart, lay a few slivers of heart pine (fat lighter to us Southerners) and then a few pieces of kindling from pallet boards.

We found the homemade fire starters we made with shredded paper to be much easier to light than those we made with sawdust.

Like others, I’ve subsequently invested in Super Cedars, and they’re great fire starters too.

Fortunately they’ve got lots of young, hale and hearty men (and a 28 ton splitter) here to do that already. And about ten cords of ash cut split and stacked in a barn seasoning since last November, to my surprise! (I really am more of a white hat now, the old guy with rotten health history who needs a nap every afternoon, but does know a bit about wood stoves and masonry rocket heaters. We’re seriously planning installations of Woodstocks in 3-4 more buildings here over the next year or two, in addition to the two Woodstocks we plan on adding to the manor retreat house.)

Which reminds me - what are you doing with my old Fireview?
