Phew..........glad someone else does this as well, my wife thinks I lost it! Yes I walk out back all time, walking through my wood stacks just checking them out. Even worse I have pic's of them on my phone and sometimes pull my phone out and stare at them in work. Hi My Names Chuck............................"HI CHUCK"...................And I have a Wood Hoarding Problem.............
I do this all the time. As in probably a couple times a day. My kitchen window looks out to the back yard so it's pretty much a daily ritual to just stand there and stare/space out at the stacks. That's not to mention when I go outside and get totally sidetracked from whatever I was going to do by all the glorious wood. I'll pick a piece up here and there, check it out, maybe knock a couple pieces together to hear that classic dry wood sound. Maybe pull some bark off here and there, or flip some pieces over on the top of the stack to expose the other side to some sun.....yeah I'm pretty sure the neighbors think I'm a weirdo.
Most of my wood is in my back yard also and catch myself staring out the kitchen window at times and I also have pictures on my phone also some of my friends probably get tired when I send them a picture LMAO I'm waiting now for it to cool down so I can go cut some more been eyeing the free adds on Facebook for more
HA! I was just sitting on my patio yesterday evening admiring my firewood stacks while sipping a beverage. When people come over they inevitably comment on how much firewood we have. The word firewood has become a trigger for me and I involuntarily go to the source and ask if they want to talk about firewood. I'm beginning to think I'm scaring our guests.
Everytime i start admiring my stacks, it turns in a few seconds into... it aint enuff, gotta cut some more. Let them all make their jokes and such. Winter is coming! Man how i love this place
You have, but thats ok, your amongst those who have also.... Now make sure it doesn't start talking to you, If it does, "THEN" start drinking, at least you'll have something to blame it on!
I'll make sure I "Clue" her in when we have wings sometime again, I'm sure my wife Chrissy can tell her some stories!
I always ask people, especially women-folk, if they are interested in joining me when I go out to admire my wood. After the requisite glance at Mrs MikeinMa, who usually just grins and shrugs, most take me up on it, and outside we go for a tour of my stacks. Admiring your wood - it's a good thing. Hey! That should be on an FHC t-shirt!
Iffin' ya don't stand back wit yo hands on yo hips an a smile on yo face whilst ya admires all yo hard work in all dem stacks, well, ya just ain't right in da head!
Here is my pile for this winter not a great bunch of stacks but the last of the wood just tossed from now forward it all goes into racks.
Longtime AA guy & long time hoarder. Hoarding is definitely the better option. That's all I have to say about that.
I gotta say, My wife understands the wood pile concept, but it did take 10 years. She gets the fact, "The way I look at it" is were not paying the electric company Thousands of $$$$$$$$$ for heating bills being our whole house is electric. Iv'e posted this before but, my neighbors heating bill is anywhere between $700 and $1000 a month between December and April! Yes, you read that right. Mine at most is $250. My electric heat hasn't been turned on in 35 years. When I say: I love you wood pile, I truly do!!!
Cato said that a Master of a Family should "keep the cellar full of wine and olive oil and grain so it would be pleasant to expect hard times" (or words to that effect). I think it is entirely reasonable to add "and a stack of firewood enough for a three year plan" I can empathize with all the sentiments expressed above. I go out all the time and look at the energy of years of sunlight transformed into stacks in my shed. The splits lie patiently awaiting a cold winters day to be set free again as radiant heat and light in the miniature sun of my wood stove.
Wow yalls rates is really high up there we have electric heat hear baseboard but I only left a few when I remodel the house last winter was the highest bill we ever had and it was 400 I about crap myself when I seen the bill I told.my wife no more we can buy a stove line the flue and it pay for itself by what we save this winter especially if it gets cold like the last one
