I built a small cabin (640 sf) and last winter put in a "logwood" stove. Got plenty of heat, but was not efficient at all and was loading it every 3 hours or so. I've done a little research, and have not found many (affordable - $700/800) to pick from. Found a Pleasant Hearth model and one from Vogelzang that show for up to 1200 sf. Any thoughts on either of these manufacturers? I have an issue with size, but these two seem to fit well. The only other consideration is my stove pipe is about 10 feet total, someone mentioned 15 feet minimum for EPA stoves..is that going to be a problem. I will have plenty of dry wood, I will not be burning anything over 20%. I will try to post a pick of the current stove. DSCF1013.JPG

Is that Vogelzang the Defender model? If so I had one, not a bad stove, not great, but not bad. It would work good on that short chimney, it is an easy breather...that is one issue I had, my chimney at 17' was too much draft for it!
FYI, you can buy those new from Menards for $400 on sale...even with shipping its probably less than what you are seeing locally used.
BTW, those logwood stoves are notorious for short burn times...they do make some heat though!

Yes, the Defender TR001B is the one of the models I've checked out...the logwood I have is a King 628 and I only paid $150 from CL last fall, but man it eats wood!

Hey, fellow Georgian, might want to check out this site...
    Our products
We have the Drolet Blackcomb. Been very happy with it, installed for 5 yrs. Usually get about 7-8 hrs burn time, high 70's efficiency, chimney height doesn't seem to matter, as long as it's about 2-3 ft taller than roof. The site has suppliers listed or order online...
    www.myfireplaceproducts.com
is where we got ours from, free shipping to USA. It handles 18-20" wood fine.

I have used Drolets products, they have good stuff priced reasonably. I've seen their small stove at the store before, almost identical to the Defender...would have bought it but the Defender was on sale big time. I suspect the Drolet may have just a slight edge on quality, but have no facts to back that up at all.
The stove that replaced my Defender is a Drolet 1400i, about the biggest stove (1.8 CF) I can fit in my lil fireplace.

It has been a blessing to us. After about 4 yrs as only source of heat, we will replace the baffle this year and one brick. Probably change out door gasket too.
