Well I had this piece of Elm and milled some of it so I could have a bench in my mud room for putting the shoes on and off.
Some of the voids in the wood I filled with epoxy resin so the top is all smooth. Finished it off with spar urethane.

Fits the space I have just right.

I got the piece of Elm from a farmer out here. I think it had been sitting on the ground for some time and was starting to show some rot. I used it anyways.

That curvy grain next to the straight is very striking. Must be where all that stringiness comes from when splitting.

    That is beautiful.
    Perfect place for it.
I am a big fan of the knots and cracks.
    Gives the piece great character.

It sure is a bear to split, so most of it I just use the saw on.
