Had a couple days off between shift change, so got to play with the big boy toys. A friend called, said she was having 4 trees taken down and another one removed from her storage building that fell about 2 weeks ago. We cleaned up the limbs and hauled the wood. 4 hickories and a white oak. The full trailer netted out @ 7200# from the 3 trees in the back yard. Probably had about 12K total from this score. Now just to find a big pig to put on a bigger pit.....
Heh, in GA. with that load, it should last for years. Seen the thread title and went, yeah, it's Georgia. Good on ya for getting after that wood.
Those are some nice sized hickory. Might check with some local BBQ joints to see what they get for a load.
Oh wow! 4 hickory and one oak!!!!! That is super firewood. I'll bet it is hot working conditions right now down there.
Yes sir, it is. My water cooler and I have become best friends lately. Temps have been 85-90°, but humidity has been up. Heat index 95-105....
Hey, my wife said we had enough for several years, until it got colder than normal last winter. Us, my 91yr old mama, and several other families use our wood. We also sell a little to help cover cost, so we have one small shed with some left. I learned a blessing isn't a blessing if you don't give some of it away. The GOOD LORD has supplied our needs.
T.Jeff Veal You have a great haul of excellent wood there. From the kind of trees you are getting I gather you are not on the coast? Even on the coast we had a fireplace that we used all the time in winter. I remember we used pine cones for kindling. My Dad was a Naval pilot so we traveled all over but I managed to go through all my high school in Brunswick Ga. while he was stationed at the then Glynco Naval Air Station. Have always had an affection for Ga. Midwinter (cool name by the way) While in Ga. I spent a lot of time reducing the local hog population. Nice hog you got there. How much did it weigh? metalcuttr
Oh yes I've shot many a hog in my day...NOT! I just chose that pic off the Internet because it was a female hunter.
No sir, we aren't on the coast, about 21/2 hrs Northwest of Savannah. About an hr almost due east of Macon. Some hills, some flatlands. Pines, and hardwood ridges and bottoms. Hot in the summer and kinda cool in the winter, it will get down in the low teens sometimes, so the wood stove comes in handy. Now if I could just find a way to cool down the house, cheap...lol... I installed the stove 4 yrs ago, haven't turned on the electric furnace since. Since I'm on levelized billing, it has come down from $400/month to about $180/ month.
My neighbor in GA did exactly that- sold pickup truck loads of hickory to a couple off BBQ places from one he cut down. $200 for a load of split fresh hickory.
