Making my rounds today I checked out the kayaking in the Farmington river. I knew there was some rounds in the area basically rotting so I checked them out. Turned out to be beech, bucked in 14”-18” rounds, and some red oak logs. I went home and got the Fiskars X27 and sledge and wedges and processed 8 or so of the beech rounds, the sap wood is punky but the heart wood is still pretty good and a fresh split came in at 20% on the moisture meter. The beech filled the 6’ bed of my Dakota, roughly 1/3 cord. I went back and got the red oak, a nice little scrounge. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
It is. I am surprised nobody took it earlier. I had to split it there and wheelbarrow it out 30 yards or so. My rounds are my trip to the transfer station, gas station, etc. Saturday morning stuff. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
There is a big oak tree down in the state park here so near the road they had to trim it back. I'm dying to go "help" them get rid of the rest of it. State park on a cold Sunday morning....nah....no problem
I like that you are in Saybrook township Ohio. We have a family beach house in Old Saybrook CT. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Old Saybrook Connecticut. I'll have to look that up. Interested in beach house for beach house swap I'm in!
No shame in that game---beech is the bomb!!!! If you havent burned, get ready...blue coals, low ash and major BTU'S!
Nice score - sounds like a little work was involved in getting it home, but nothing too bad. You reckon this was from power line cutting?
