Went to the Docs Monday as my darn shoulder's been killing me for a month now and I am getting tired of being awaken with pain. Now i pay a Shirtload of cash for insurance and fricking hate that it sucks so bad its such a fricking scam ! Insurance protocol sucks !
The Doc told me I have classic symptoms of torn rotator cuff and probably have a bulging disc in my spine so to myself i'm thinking ok lets do a MRI and end the mystery and set up surgery , nope they want me to do physical therapy wtf ? 3-4 weeks of physical therapy then come back for evaluation and possibly then get cortisone shots ? I don't want to wait that long and have paid so much money to the insurance company i think it should be taking care of . Don't get me wrong I am not an advocate of surgery as I have put off knee surgery for over 40 years(both knee's) but if I can get relief from surgery for my shoulder I'm game done with the pain and lack of sleep . <end of rant>
    Working the Dr.Willis medication !

Dont go down the shoulder surgery road too quick. Someone I know had it done day after Christmas with a 3-6 month recovery period. He just lost the sling a few weeks ago and still has months of recovery ahead of him. Physical therapy after the surgery was several times a week for months. You wont be working co9nstruction for a while after the surgery.

The PT prior is a PITA but maybe Cortisone CAN help it.

F them tired of paying hard earned cash and getting chite for it, this is not going to be pretty but should be interesting in the least. Now if I were on Mass Health I am sure they would have done the MRI without hesitation ...... Sucks have not got harsh feelings for those who need it but hate that so many take advantage of the system and am f'ing tired of working my arse off and not getting any benefit when I pay for those who have Mass Health and receive benefits. I work I pay so I should receive the care I pay for ....

BTW, my shoulder is the same. The pain comes and goes but sometimes wakes me up too. It sucks. After seeing my friends recovery I am in no rush to have anything done if I can help it.

Sometimes the cure is far worse than the problem.

Don't have a choice but guess what really pizzes me off is that they will not provide me with a true diagnosis by doing the MRI.
Thanks for the info G i do appreciate it, I talked to 3 that have had the surgery and one other co-worker who is going through the same chite I am with diagnosis. The PT person said after 2 visits you need to call your doctor back as there is no way I am going to continue PT with you it will only do more damage. So he called the doctor and low and behold the doc told him he had to come back for another visit for a referral to a specialist, now taint that a kick in the arse... F'ing money grabbing mofo's the health care system sucks as a whole as it punishes those who pay into the system and reward to many of those who are scamming the system all together ...

I have been putting it off and dealing with it for over a decade at least and guess I am getting old and tired of dealing with it, all of those i talked to benefitted from it and I am guessing the longer you wait the more damage you could be doing . Just my feeling will figure it out after I get a MRI after going through all the BS to get that done meaning the MRI.

Agreed Smokey totally as I was suppose to get my knees operated on at the age of 12 Thank the Lord my parents were smart enough to avoid it, I live in constant pain but had I done the surgery back then it was doing 40% damage to heal possibly 60%. <truly end of rant>
    thanks all for your opinions

My youngest son (35) just had shoulder surgery. He's an electrician. He no longer can lift his right arm above his head. Stops at 3/4 raised. Now they want to operate again. I told him to learn to compensate for it and move forward.

I have a complete tear and a partial tear in my shoulder. Hurt like H#ll. Went to the doctor. They did an MRI and surgical consult. That is when the trouble started. Blood work looked off so I had to have some genetic workup for bleeding. (had PI and DVT when I had my gallbladder out) Finally passed that after 6 months of work up. But by then, my shoulder was feeling better. As good as anything I would gain from surgery. So I declined the surgery. It has been about 4 years give or take, and it feels like nothing ever happened.

I hear ya there man. Several years ago I had a wrist injury and went to an orthopedic. Figured it was going to be a cortisone shot but no he sent me for 6-8 weeks of PT. AFTER that he gave me the shot and cleared it up. My insurance has a $50 co pay for each specialist visit which PT is considered specialist. That cost me a good $700-800 including the ortho visits and PT didnt do squat only to finally get the dam shot that fixed the issue. The kicker is that the insurance company does not count that 700-800 copay towards my 3K deductible for the year if I needed something major done. I agree the whole thing is a freaking scam.

Also your primary doc doesn't do a whole lot of anything anymore except send you to see a specialist. Yet you must have a primary doc and you cant see the specialist until he/she gets their cut for doing nothing.

Mine is even work related with an open claim from 2 years ago this month. Its also the same time I injured a disk in my neck. I was so focused on the neck issues that my shoulder took a back seat. Both have gotten better with time and therapy that ended a year ago but lately the shoulder seems worse. It probably that I am taking far less anti inflammatory for my neck and those were helping the shoulder too. Overall I am not ready for surgery on either, compensate and move forward-maybe try a cortisone shot or two. Also after 2 years the workers comp would probably give me a chit load of hard time to do anything anyway.
