It's nice to see someone else using 953's. They're the perfect machine for building a small pond like yours. Most of the time we can pass compaction tests just by using the loader cat and putting in shorts lifts and packing it in with the tracks. Some inspectors want to see a sheeepsfoot used, but if we can prove we're meeting density specs that's one less machine the project owner has to pay for. And if we're building the structure with scrapers there's no doubt it's getting packed good enough. What kind of outlet pipe are you planning to put in? I really like the silent intake/French drain style. Much less likely to get plugged by debris or muskrats.

Day 4! it’s really starting to look like something! These are from yesterday(Monday). They have 5-6 more lifts to do today and then they will spread the wet top soil out to let it dry. They will be back on a few days to do the final grading 1501574D-01EF-45EC-B579-89D6C5589D75.jpeg 5B2A1AF0-5D7B-4084-9472-E3D027E8D720.jpeg DDCA0ECF-744B-4446-AFE6-9CB1B6F2E08F.jpeg 6FE74200-975D-4E5B-92D6-13F051D1370A.jpeg E86D9E44-5241-48D0-9042-78EFF18D8335.jpeg 14E55F3F-D012-4B81-AEB7-D511A5965224.jpeg

    Cool project fordguy64 !
Looks like fun. It will be a VERY nice addition!
Is the top of the water in the pond going to be higher than the top of ground around your house?

Cool project fordguy64 ... curious how it will get it's water supply. Have you diverted a spring or stream while digging? Looks like it will be quite a spot in a few years......... :seasoned:

we are going to pick up some concrete culverts on friday! as far as filling we have about 2 acres that will feed the pond when it rains. the guy running the crew said he might have hit spring but he isnt sure as it was really rainy before they got started

Did you have to jump through hoops to pull permit to build this?

Sadly no spring. But it’s basically done at this point. Just gotta put the drain in and finish the top soil. He shot it with the laser it will be 13’ deep 7D896403-92E8-45F6-88F9-94EDB8F102AB.jpeg C756088B-80DE-4688-A0CE-655B7FDFA160.jpeg

Very nice fordguy64 I'm sure you and your family will have many years of enjoyment with that pond and the fishes.:seasoned:

I do hope that the 2 acres provides as much rain runoff as you'll need to keep the water levels up.

I would also tend to second the recommendation to plan for any fish spawning structures now, as it'll be easier now to place them than it will be in the future.

Will a dock be going in??

We are getting a bunch of concrete culvert on Friday. That will get us started. I’ll have to get them in Friday because we are supposed to get an inch of rain or so this weekend.

We will be putting a floating dock in once the water level is up

fordguy64 do you have a plan for leeches? My Lil swamp area always attracts ducks, herons and other birds. I've read their feces contains the eggs of leeches.

Some day planning on putting in a pond, which would have to be about 1.5 acres. Area even in a drought is always wet cattails and such. Ours had a standing pool area about 12 by 25 that's 8 feet deep that gets brackish in dry weather.
