So...some of you may know I haven't been around much for a couple of years on here . I've had a pretty bad go of it in my personal life . Kinda turned my life upside down. Between my child custodity issues with the ex....and a body that's prematurely broken down , I gained a pretty crappy outlook on life. But after having nothing but time to think....I'm trying to change my attitude...try and save up for the next fight...and try some things I've always wanted to do. So here's the plan...... My brother and I are gonna try making maple syrup ! Since we have easy access to about 300 taps on family property...it only makes sense (gonna start with 20 -50 taps ) We picked up a nice slightly used Leader Half Pint evaporator....with an extension kit (not pictured). So now we gather parts ! We also are gonna need a small amount of firewood.....perfect...I know what to do on that subject !! So today...to my surprise..my girlfriend ..out of her own pocket....bought me the saw I missed the most since I got this CAD disease...and had to sell them all. A brand new Husqvarna 450 Rancher ! Pretty lucky man I am sometimes lol ! Nice to see some updates from my first 450 . One of them is flippy caps 20" bar ..perfect for the smaller stuff I cut these days....with less bending down. I don't do that well anymore lol. Can't wait to try it out I can't tell you how thankful I am to have a family...and a few friends who are willing to take a risk on this old broken down guy .....help get a fresh start...and help propel into the future. I'm very blessed indeed ! Coming up as soon as it warms up....a look into if this thing will hate Ash as much as the Husky 545 and 550xp that I had to send down the road some time ago.. P.S....thanks already for a lot of you welcoming me back. I hope to stay from here on out
Looks like a winner you have there! Both the saw and the girl friend. From time to time lots of folks need a fresh start. I know I have through out my life and it can be a very good thing indeed. Fortunately I've been able to keep my girlfriend through it all but had to buy my own saws. lol
Good to see ya back! That's a heck of a first evap! Mine was a hotel steam pan and some cinder blocks! It would eat a face cord per 12 hour day of boiling.

Thanks ! Yea...you know....we started to collect parts to make one out of a 275 oil tank....then this unpassable deal came up...so we jumped on it . I'm really looking forward to this !
Very cool! Glad to hear things are looking up for you! I just got an evaporator myself recently- we’ve got a little over a gallon of syrup so far. It’s a lot of fun!

Good stuff Honeyfuzz! I know you're from the middlefield area, Mervin at Ray's Repair has a nice sugar shack. I stopped up the other night when they were boiling. They can do 120 gallons an hour! That half-pint will do 4 to 5 gallons an hour, which is a nice size for a hobby setup like you're planning to start out with. I think you'll enjoy it. As you know, this area has a strong history of making maple syrup. There is a good maple syrup shop on Georgia road right where white road dead ends in Georgia if you need some supplies.
